Don’t Hold Your Breath for New Acid Bath Music
Prior to their resurgence last year, sludge metal titans Acid Bath had been on a nearly three decade long hiatus. They’d officially disbanded in January 1997 after the passing of their bassist Audie Pitre and that was that. Surviving members Sammy “Pierre” Duet, Dax Riggs, and Mike Sanchez went on to do their own things and there was no more Acid Bath.
Yet here we are in 2025 and the surviving members are now joined by Goatwhore drummer Zack Simmons and Crowbar’s Shane Wesley on bass for the band’s return to the stage. They’ve since played a number of shows with plans to play even more gigs into 2026. And with all this activity, it’s naturally gotten fans wondering — new music soon?
According to Riggs, who was recently interviewed by New Noise Magazine, that shit ain’t happening. The members have other projects they’ll devote their creative energies to while Acid Bath will remain a live gig kind of arrangement.
“Acid Bath won’t make new music, but the members will continue to write and record in their respective projects.”
As for why the band even got back together in the first place, Riggs explained why it all went down, albeit in his wry sense of humor:
“There was never a real attempt [to reunite prior to now] — it was just inter-web bullshit. As far as why now? Death and taxes.”
It may seem extremely unlikely that we’ll ever get new Acid Bath tunes at this time, but that doesn’t mean we’re completely devoid of the band. They’ve got a buncha live shows coming up, with even their first 2026 date officially confirmed. So if things continue the way they’re going now, we’ve got a long stretch of chances to catch ’em live before it’s all said and done. You can find the dates below.
