Cryptopsy Drop Short Film for ‘An Insatiable Violence’, Somehow Make Things Even Nastier

0

I don’t know about you, but when I see people do gross things with their mouth (pause), it gives me the willies. So when I saw an actress being fed some gross looking black shit and she starts gagging in the short film for Cryptopsy‘s latest album ‘An Insatiable Violence’, I’m not gonna lie — my stomach did a little cartwheel.

But that’s the point, isn’t it? Cryptopsy’s all about being vile and outdoing themselves whenever they can, so naturally they’d put out some weird video interstitials for each of the album’s eight tracks. Over the last four months, those clips have been released and now the full short film has been released.

Cryptopsy vocalist Matt McGachy said the short film’s concept came about while trying to determine exactly how they were going to promote the record.

“When we were thinking of a unique way to promote ‘An Insatiable Violence’, Flo came up with a killer concept of sharing one part from each song before the album came out. We ended up expanding on that idea by using those pieces to create a short film.”

Having expanded that initial idea into what they dropped today, there’s a lot going on in the nearly four minute clip you can watch below.

The short film, created in conjunction with Canadian horror company Rue Morgue, follows the story of a person that wants desperately to be famous via social media. What happens is the sickening ways people debase themselves for likes and clicks. It was with that backdrop that the short film’s director Christopher Kells said he shot the whole thing.

“Creating an 8-part mini series for Cryptopsy’s An Insatiable Violence was no easy task. Matt and I cultivated stories based off of his lyrics and decided to give an awkward and uncomfortable view into a fictitious influencer’s mind.

“The videos explore the grotesque and isolating effects of digital culture, influencer obsession and the decay of self-worth in a hyper-connected world. Actress Lisa McCormack dove right into the character development and gave it her all as our influencer. The fast-paced imagery and visuals mirror the psychological descent of an online persona from idolized content creator to digital burnout and eventual madness…

“There was a shared understanding that we were there and focused on creating something truly strange, visceral and creatively unhinged. That energy was essential to me not only as a director but as a fan of the band, and it mirrored the chaotic intensity and experimental spirit of Cryptopsy’s music.”

In addition to the short story, Cryptopsy have plans to hit the road with The Last Ten Seconds of Life and Cognitive for ‘The Underworld Awaits’ Tour. You can find the full list of dates below.
