Black Veil Brides’ New Single “Hallelujah” is a Return to Their Heavier Past

It’s been a minute since mall goth glam metal revivalists Black Veil Brides released some new music — last year, to be exact with the release of their track “Bleeders”, to be exact. And in that time, the band seemingly reconnected with their older, more metalcoreish sound, because today’s new single “Hallelujah” is sure to get long-suffering fans of O.G. BVB excited.

Released earlier today on all major digital streaming platforms, the track not only features a heavier soundscape, but they also incorporated the Tampa-based gospel choir One Voice Ensemble to give the whole thing an extra layer of gravitas. You’ll know what I mean when you hear it.

Speaking of the track, frontman Andy Biersack said “Hallelujah” was an attempt for the band to signal to fans that they were turning a corner sonically.

“‘Hallelujah’ is an important song for us, not only because it is the first track from the new record, but also as a signifier of what’s to come for the band. On a narrative level, it represents the themes and ideas I am exploring lyrically on the album.

“I am fascinated by the current state of discourse and how often we seem to prioritize ideological certainty over the heart and soul of humanity. Over the years we have developed a tremendous connection with our audience, which is often dismissed or misinterpreted by the ‘scene.’ We stand at a unique inflection point culturally and I want to be able to speak openly about how much I believe in being true to yourself over the fear of mass hysteria or in-group recriminations.

“When my grandfather’s voice spoke to ‘the outcasts’ in the first moments of our first record in 2010, it was a sincere call to arms for all those who feel different. In many ways this record is the natural evolution of that same idea. This is the heaviest and most vitriolic Black Veil Brides record by far but more importantly I believe it is the most sincere and honest record we have ever made.”

Just as Biersack alluded to in that statement, Black Veil Brides are apparently working on their follow up to 2021’s The Phantom Tomorrow. It’s apparently coming sometime later this year via Spinefarm Records and it’s supposed to be among their heaviest work yet. Biersack said this one’s going to be a spiritual successor to their 2010 debut We Stitch These Wounds.

“That was a call to arms for those who felt like they didn’t belong. This record is an evolution of that idea. It’s angry, it’s visceral, but most importantly, it’s honest.”
