Grindmother to Play Final Two Shows Following Dementia Diagnosis
For an artist of any caliber, the chance to go out with a bang can mean everything. So it’s pretty damn cool that Grindmother will go out on their own terms with a pair of final show as their 77-year-old namesake vocalist stares down a dementia diagnosis.
Having burst onto the scene back in 2015 with the release of a number of videos that exploded online, Grindmother released their own song “Any Cost” before eventually dropping their only album Age of Destruction a year later. The band then went on a nearly 60 date run of shows between 2017 and 2018.
After that three-year whirlwind, the band entered a seven-year hiatus, but now that’s over. This winter, the band will play their final two shows as a final send off. They’ll take place as part of Cattle Decapitation’s ‘No Fear For Tomorrow’ tour on December 5 at Club Soda in Montreal and December 6 at The Concert Hall in Toronto. They’ll share the stage with not just Cattle Decapitation, but also Aborted, Frozen Soul, and Tribal Gaze.
As always, Grindmother will be flanked by her son Rayny Forster on bass, as well as Topon Das and Mathieu “Vil” Vilandré of Fuck The Facts on guitar and drums. As her son, Forster said this pair of shows will be incredibly important to him and his family.
“We wanted her to have a proper farewell for the fans she loves more than anything. We’re beyond thankful to Travis Ryan and Cattle Decapitation for the opportunity to bring her in front of such a large audience. And of course, to our fellow Canadian grindcore family in Fuck the Facts who have graciously accepted the call. This will be a great celebration.
“These will be her final live appearances, but it won’t be the last you’ll hear from us. We’re working on new music, and there’s a lot more to come.”
