Sanguisugabogg Claim They Were Threatened at Gunpoint by Venue Staff, Call for Immediate Ban
Columbus death metal crew Sanguisugabogg are calling for a boycott of the Minglewood Hall / 1884 Lounge in Memphis, TN, after an alleged confrontation with venue staff on Tuesday, July 29. According to the band, things escalated to the point where a venue rep told them he would shoot them following a dispute over their set length.
The band shared a detailed account on social media, claiming that the venue’s general manager accused them of breaching contract for not playing their full scheduled set. Things apparently got heated after that, with the band alleging physical aggression and direct threats.
“UPDATE
They’re telling us to take the post down and saying he didn’t say he was gonna shoot us that he told us ‘I have a gun…’ that’s not true he told 5 of us he WORK FOR THIS CLOWN
This is Cory Likens and hopefully by tomorrow morning he doesn’t have a job! At our show in Memphis, TN tonight right after we got done playing we were told to come to his office to settle so our tm came up and was told that we breached our contract because our set ended earlier than what we were slotted (not a thing) and shoved him out of his office.
All the bands returned to just settle out and one of us just wanted to have a conversation as to what was going on and he popped his head out of the office to tell us to leave or he was going to SHOOT us. He ended up leaving as he was told to by our awesome team and luckily after a few hours someone way more professional and calmly mannered wrote a check. We’ve heard from people that he’s unwell and stuff to not this extreme but bands not getting paid has happened before.”
The band ended their post with more criticism and photos of the green room to dispute any possible claims of damage:
“Glad you made sure to leave without giving us your name I bet you felt really proud and safe but quick detective work like finding your f*ckboy haircut on google did the trick.
We also made sure to include pics of the green room cuz we saw the staff take a picture of the room when the table got knocked over… obviously it’s not broken
Awesome venue, awesome show, screw this dude!”
Sanguisugabogg are urging other bands, agents, and promoters to steer clear of the venue moving forward. As of now, Minglewood Hall has not issued a public statement.
