Cold Steel Unveil Their Debut Album ‘Discipline & Punish’, Release New Single “No Escape”
A major milestone’s been reached for Florida-based hardcore thrash outfit Cold Steel, as they’ve officially pulled the curtains back and revealed their debut full-length effort Discipline & Punish. Set for release on November 7 via Spinefarm, the album is the culmination of years of hard work.
To commemorate the occasion, Cold Steel released their latest single “No Escape”. And one thing I need to impress on you right from the back is how if you don’t bang your head to this track’s riffage, you’re probably not playing the damn thing loud enough.
According to the band, the track is all about self-acutalization while trying to remain true to yourself.
“’No Escape’ focuses on the struggle of being yourself, the trap of becoming something you’re not, and the balance between being authentic and survival. We didn’t choose to be here, but we can choose how we play the game. We’re conditioned not to question the things around us, to fall in line and bury emotions deep. We build walls so high that we can no longer see our way out. There’s a lot in this track about identity, pressure, control, and realizing that if you don’t confront what you’ve been running from, it will eventually catch up to you.”
As for the new album, the band recruited the likes of Philadelphia’s Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Blood Incantation, Cavalera) to produce the final product. According to the band, they directly drew on their main influences to get this thing made: Metallica, Machine Head, and Slipknot. But that’s not to say they aped their style.
Along with Rizk, the band was able to collaborate and work with Trivium’s Matt Heafy, who helped during pre-production and the arrangement of the band’s tracks. After spending time with the fledgling band, Heafy said the band’s got a real good future ahead of them.
“COLD STEEL are a band who could change the face and sound of heavy music. Their sound defies barriers: metal kids like them, punk kids like them, hardcore kids like them. They live authentically and unapologetically in their own world and are ready to show the masses what they do best – and that’s being themselves. Get into COLD STEEL if you haven’t… now.”
Discipline & Punish will be released on November 7 via Spinefarm, but you can preorder your copy today.
