Watch Metallica Play “Master of Puppets” to an Intimate Crowd of 500 People
When you get as big as Metallica, it’s easy to forget the little venues. You’re so used to traveling the world and playing massive fucking football stadiums that intimate crowds in the hundreds seem like a lifetime ago. But every once in a while, these titans of metal occasionally return to their roots and play to a small crowd of (likely very wealthy) individuals.
Such was the case at Metallica’s show on August 28 when they played to just 500 people at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York. The show was in support of the launch of their new SiriusXM station, Maximum Metallica.
Though they played a full 14-song set, the band’s so far only released video footage of them playing the 1986 classic “Master of Puppets” from the album of the same name. If you can overlook the dogshit drum fills Lars regularly commits, you can at least appreciate the other 90% of the song.
Now, the reason why I brought up how wealthy people likely were at this show is two-fold. Where they played is a pretty well-to-do section of Long Island, New York and celebrities like Sir Paul McCartney, Sylvester Stallone, and Howard Stern were in the crowd.
So yeah, now Metallica have their own SiriusXM channel and they played an intimate show. If you want to see the band in a significantly less intimate setting, you can do so at any of the shows listed below.
