Dave Mustaine Was Apparently “Nervous” Before Playing “Tipping Point” for the First Time Live

It’s hard to imagine a reality where Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is anything but the cocksure, almost curmudgeonly old thrasher. He’s always seemed so confident in everything he does, but sometimes it’s good to remember that the dude’s human. And nothing proves that as well as some self-doubt creeping in at an inopportune moment.

Such was the case, apparently, when Megadeth went to play their latest single “Tipping Point” live for the first time in front of an audience. The moment took place while Megadeth was playing the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam the other night. While speaking with the Vic Rattlehead Instagram page, Mustaine revealed his feelings.

“I was a little nervous about playing it because we hadn’t played it live yet. And I always get a little nervous whenever we play a song for the first time. But it went off without a hitch and the fans really liked it.”

Apparently they weren’t originally slated to play the song live, but with the generally positive response it got online following its release, Mustaine said the band felt it was a good time to debut “Tipping Point.”

“I thought we were going to save it until we got to England [a week later], but we were so excited because of the fans, their approval of the song and how many people are really responding in a positive way for ‘Tipping Point’. So we just couldn’t wait anymore.”

“Tipping Point” is the first single off of Megadeth’s final, self-titled album slated for release next year. The plan is for Megadeth to launch a farewell tour on the back of this album. Megadeth will be released on January 23, 2026 via BLKIIBLK.
