Testament’s Chuck Billy Says the Band is “Shooting To Do Another Record Next Year”

0

Let’s be real for a second — that new Testament album Para Bellum fucking rules. It hits all the right things you’d expect from a Testament album in 2025, but also brings some new freshness thanks to the inclusion of new drummer Chris Dovas. There are parts where the thrash legends even got a little death metal-y on us. But what if they weren’t done putting out killer tunes?

According to a recent interview with Knotfest, Testament frontman Chuck Billy, another Testament album could be in the works as early as next year.

“When we get home, Eric and Chris are getting back together to keep writing. We’re shooting to do another record next year. That’s the goal.”

Ladies and gents, with Megadeth bowing out, I think we should officially put Testament in their place as a member of the Big Four. These guys haven’t missed for a long time and they just seem to be getting better with age.

And while we’re talking about age, we can circle back to Dovas, who at 27 is by far the youngest member of Testament. Having been selected to replace the legedary Dave Lombardo, he definitely stepped up to the plate and did not disappoint. Billy said it was Dovas’ playing on the record definitely pushed Para Bellum in a different direction.

“[Chris Dovas] was raised with a different style of metal than we were. I think he’s bringing that newer style of drumming to what Eric had. Chris put in a lot of time with Eric, probably the most any drummer has. They struck a good nerve on this record and found a really good balance. Moving one foot forward to where we fit today in the modern music scene, showing that we’re not afraid to take chances and get experimental without losing who we are.”

So there you have it. Things are looking bright for Testament lately and if Chuck Billy’s accurate, there will be more new tunes before we know it.
