Judas Priest Receive Albuquerque, NM Keys to the City

0

When you think about Judas Priest, the first things that probably come to mind are their music, Rob Halford’s signature style, and how well they perform on stage. What probably shouldn’t and doesn’t come to mind is the city of Albuquerque, NM, where the band received the keys to the city last Thursday, October 23.

Albuquerque mayor Tim Keller is a hella big metalhead, which is how Judas Priest ended up with the keys in the first place, considering they’re not from anywhere near New Mexico. Keller was born and raised there, and he’s bestowed keys to the city to other metal musicians before, like members of Testament, Jeff Bacerra (Possessed) , Soulfly‘s Max Cavalera, and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. He’s even introduced Trivium and Anthrax on stage when they’ve rolled through the city for tour.

Judas Priest shared the following:

“On Thursday, October 23rd the fellas of Judas Priest were awarded the key to the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico by the Metal Mayor, Tim Keller

“Thank you to the mayor, his team, and all the Metal Maniacs of Albuquerque!”

Back in 2017, Keller said in and interview to New York Times how “Albuquerque has always been pretty strong on the heavy metal front. What can I say? this is something I’ve been into for a long time.”

More metalheads in politics please. It probably wouldn’t help at all with certain helpful policies, but at least we’ve have a good soundtrack.
