Capcom is Teaming Up with Babymetal to Celebrate 30 Years of ‘Resident Evil’
When you think of zombie video game series, there are few that have stood the test of time longer than the O.G. itself — Resident Evil. A household name since the early ’90s, the series has spawned roughly 30 console games, including mainline titles, spin-offs, and remakes, as well as animation projects and feature films.
Next year marks the series’ 30th anniversary, so of course its parent company Capcom is doing the natural thing — collaborating with kawaiicore band Babymetal. While I’d have personally gone with a death metal band like Cattle Decapitation or 200 Stab Wounds, I guess this makes sense in some universe? I mean, Capcom is a Japanese company, after all.
How far this collaboration goes is still unknown at this point. The only thing we’re going off is a video statement featuring Alcina Dimitrescu from the 2021’s Resident Evil Village where she announces that there will be special collaborative merchandise on offer next year. As a long-time fan of the series, I hope they do something else to mark the occasion, given the series’ importance to gaming in general.
