Limp Bizkit Play First Show without Late Bassist Sam Rivers
It’s so weird not seeing Sam Rivers on stage with Limp Bizkit. It feels empty—a hollow hole incapable of being filled. Still, Limp Bizkit is trying to push forward without one of its key pieces, having now played their first show without Rivers last night (Saturday, November 29) at Explanada Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, as part of their current Latin American tour “Loserville Gringo Papi Tour 2025.”You can watch fan-filmed footage of the concert below.
Stepping in on bass was Kid Not (real name Richie Buxton), who is a songwriting partner and producer for one of the tour’s opener Ecca Vandal, an Australian singer-songwriter and rapper.
During the performance Limp paid tribute to Rivers with a video compilation of performance highlights of Rivers, watching the video along with the audience as it happened. As it ended, the surviving members of the band hugged each other in remembrance of Rivers. Talk about heartbreaking.
Just before the show, the band’s drummer John Otto shared an online statement about playing for the first time without Rivers, and yes, it’s a gut punch.
Otto wrote:
“Today is going to be tough. A first I never wanted to experience. Especially not now.
“You’ve been there for so many major firsts in my life. Some of my earliest memories were made with you. We grew up together. Laughed together. Realized our dreams together. And traveled the world together. You’ve always been there. The godfather to my girls, my best friend — my brother. There will never be another you.
“We’re going to honor the life you lived and the love you spread with every show we play. You’ll always be with us.
“Thank you to our fans for all the messages of support and tributes to Sam. It means the world to us.
“This one’s for you Sammy.”
Limp Bizkit will continue their “Loserville Gringo Papi Tour 2025” excursion throughout December, stopping in Costa Rica, Peru, and Argentina among a few other select cities. Funnily enough, in addition to Ecca Vandal, Bullet for My Valentine, Riff Raff, 311, and Slay Squad are on as tour support.
What a bill.
