Converge’s Ben Koller “Pretty Lucky To Be Alive” After Scary Hit-and-Run
Yesterday afternoon, a scary situation unfolded in which Converge and Mutoid Man drummer Ben Koller was involved in a hit-and-run accident that left his vehicle upside down in the middle of the road.
Evidence of the apparent accident cropped up in a post on Koller’s Instagram feed which included a photo of the vehicle he was driving planted firmly on its roof. Koller explained what happened in the image’s caption, stating that someone t-boned his vehicle and then promptly fled the scene.
“Nice little Sunday. They t-boned me and fled the scene. Luckily their bumper flew off and had the license plate on it. I’m somehow walking and talking and pretty lucky to be alive. Don’t waste a second this thing could be over at any second and it’s completely out of your control. I think god wants me to finish my work at @heavymusiccollective. ok bye see you at saddest day fest.”
Given how hard the other guy had to have hit Koller’s vehicle in order to flip it, I’d imagine it’s going to be easy for law enforcement to locate the car — especially since the offending vehicle’s front bumper and license plate came off in the accident.
In the Instagram post’s comment section, fans and artists in bands like Touché Amoré, Pile, God’s Hate, Russian Circles, The Red Chord, Suicidal Tendencies, and more sent their best wishes to Koller. Despite the accident, Koller said he fully intends to play Converge’s ‘Saddest Day 2025’ festival next Saturday.
In a follow up comment, Koller tagged Toyota’s official Instagram story, thanking the car manufacturer for “saving my life.” The major corporation responded in kind:
“We’re sorry this happened to you, but we’re also relieved that you’re okay. Thank you for sharing and for being a part of our Toyota Family.”
After the year we’ve all had as a heavy metal collective, I gotta say it’s great that 2025 didn’t give us yet another tragic loss in this incident. Thank goodness no one was hurt or killed in the accident.
