Clutch Will Begin Recording a New Album Early Next Year
After learning that Clutch will be going on tour with Corrosion of Conformity next year, it’s pretty obvious that there’s a good chance we’d be hearing new material on the road. They’ve already been playing a couple new tracks, so we know there’s new music on the horizon, but according to Clutch frontman Neil Fallon, the wheels have already begun turning on a new album.
That bit of info came about during an interview he had with U.K.’s Metal Hammer. In the conversation, Fallon was asked how songwriting for the band’s follow-up to Sunrise On Slaughter Beach was going. He said things are progressing at the band’s pace.
“We did begin a pre-production and writing session earlier this year, but then we went back out on tour. There will be another writing session in January, and the plan is to record in late January or early February. Nowadays, from finishing a record to mastering takes up to six months. And the great thing about being our own record label is that if it doesn’t feel right to put it out at that time, we won’t. We’d rather wait and make it as good as it can be. That’s where we are at. There are a number of songs in the can, but I’m not going to predict when it might be released.”
Okay, so we still don’t know when this is coming out. Bummer, but understandable. I just can’t wait to hear the new record.
Later on in the interview, Fallon was asked whether things get harder everytime when it comes to writing new music.
“Every year it gets harder and harder to come up with stuff, because you already have these existing records, but… yeah. We know that [as an album] it’ll be alright.”
