John 5 Think Mötley Crüe “Deserves” a Spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Now that I think of it, I can’t find one reason why Mötley Crüe hasn’t been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after all these years. No matter how you may feel about their particular style of heavy and glam metal, you can’t really deny that the band has had a hefty amount of influence in so many ways, on so many people. The band’s guitarist John 5 recognizes this too, and spoke about it in a new interview with American Musical Supply. You can see the full video below.
When señor cinco was asked about what the hell is taking the HoF so long to induct them, he responded with this:
“Oh, I have no idea. I’d vote for ’em. I have no idea. But if it was up to me, I’d have ’em in one day after the 25 years,” he said, referencing the fact that artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single. “Is that what it is? 25 years? I think they should be in it, and I think it’d be wonderful. They deserve it, because I think it’s all about influence. And so many bands, so many countless musicians and bands have been influenced by Mötley Crüe. And I think it’s what’s important. So, yeah, it’s a head scratcher. But I think they deserve it by far. Yeah.”
It probably feels like a slap in the face considering who of that era has been inducted so far (Guns N’ Roses), while many others like Iron Maiden, Scorpions, and Styx, join the Crüe in their lack of recognition. What the hell is up with that? Especially since Crüe won the “Voice Your Choice” in-museum Rock Hall fan vote, which is basically a viewer’s choice award, back in 2019.
Mötley Crüe’s frontman Vince Neil also spoke on it back in May 2024 when he told Radio Sara of Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR: “I think it’d be pretty cool to be inducted, but we’ll probably be dead when they induct us.”
Drummer Tommy Lee added:
“It’s weird. It’s one of those things where you’re, like, ‘Oh, that would be so fucking rad.’ And it’s a weird double-edged thing, because, at one point, it was, like, ‘Whoa, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.’ And then, over the years, there’s been a bunch of people getting inducted into it that — I don’t know — sometimes you’re, like, ‘How’s that possible?’ or ‘I’m not sure that this quite fits’ or whatever. And so then you go, you’re, like, ‘Yeah, maybe it’s not that cool.’ But if the fans think it’s cool, then it’s cool.”
Justice for Mötley Crüe, for real. And everyone else too, while we’re at it. It’s so annoying how these big academies, in every creative medium, don’t recognize soon enough who really deserves it.
