Want Your MTV? Someone Built an App with 33,000 Music Videos

At the very end of 2025, an end of an era took place — the power that be over at MTV axed the cable channel’s remaining 24-hour music channels. Not just in the U.S., mind you, but all over the world the once favored method of catching music videos was no more. Well, one coder decided that wasn’t going to fly and created a modern solution to an untenable problem.

Enter MTV Rewind, a free webapp created by a programmer that calls themselves Flexasaurus Rex with zero ads, algorithms, or added bullshit. Just an easy way to view a collection of more than 33,000 music videos (and counting) spanning six decades across various decade-focused “channels”. Additionally, the web app includes channels based on the old shows Yo! MTV Raps and Headbangers Ball. Or if you’re an agent of chaos, you can always hit the Shuffle All button, too.

Speaking about why this whole thing even exists, Mr. Flexasaurus said it was a necessary thing to do, given the importance of MTV.

“MTV was a cultural institution that changed music, fashion and youth culture. Then they stopped showing music videos and became reality TV. I felt a wave of sadness when the announcement hit. Nothing felt like it could fill that void. So I started coding. Built it in 48 hours: MTV REWIND.”

So if you want to relive the old days with MTV or you want to see what it was kinda like, head over to MTV Rewind and maybe send a few dollars over to Flexasaurus, since he’s doing this all for free.
