Kyle Gass Says Tenacious D is Coming Back and It’ll Be “Bigger Than Oasis”

In the middle of a Tenacious D show in 2024, Kyle Gass made an onstage joke about the assassination attempt against then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. It got laughs, but as things go these days, people got all up in their fee-fees and as a result, shit started hitting the fan. Jack Black’s a major Hollywood actor now, so you know what that meant — the D was done. They went on hiatus.

Now, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Gass says fans can rest easy because the D will be back. All it took was some distance from the incident and the fact that he “hashed it out” with his long-time partner.

“It was terrible judgment, obviously. I’ve felt terrible ever since, because it’s such a responsibility to not screw up like that.

“I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. It’s one of those things, once it was picked up, it just got worse and worse. It was a Defcon 2 for sure in the camp. And I did it. It was hard to take responsibility for it, but it was my fuck-up. When you’re in it, it’s hard to even think straight. It’s just this thing flooding and coming at you.

“We had to take the break. And I got it. Jack has this magnificent career; I can’t even count the franchises now. So as hard as it was, I just had to take the long ride home.”

In the wake of everything, Gass said his partnership with Black was something “like a marriage.” To him, his relationship with his long-time partner goes “through these ups and downs, and [you] try to understand your partner.”

With the air cleared, Gass says Tenacious D will “come back” sometime in the future and that it will be “bigger than Oasis!”

“We will serve no D-wine before it’s D-time – but we will be back. We will return.”

Hell yeah, man. The world’s been a worse place without the D.
