The Irish Would Appreciate People Not Killing Any More Sweet Children O’ Theirs with Their Cars

GNR Irish Car Safety AdIn America, we use a gentle-sounding cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’Mine” to sell baby products, while in Ireland, they use a gentle-sounding cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’Mine” to ask people to stop killing babies. If that doesn’t sum up the difference between the two countries right there, I dunno what does.

The below ad for DOE Road Safety was inspired because, according to Metal Insider, “28 children were killed by speeding accidents since 2000.” Which doesn’t even seem like THAT many children to me. Axl Rose has probably killed five times as many assistants in that same time frame, and he didn’t even use a car to do it. Plus, it’s Ireland. It’s entirely feasible that the country’s citizens are just enacting a variation of Swift’s A Modest Proposal for Preventing the Children of Poor People From Being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country. We have welfare, they have vehicular manslaughter. Same diff.

One thing I do appreciate about this commercial: it… is… HILARIOUS. It’s not every day you get to see a bunch of kids smushed to death by a car while their caretakers look on in a fairly calm manner.

By the way, rumor has it that Vince Neil thought this was a tourism ad attempting to lure visitors to Ireland. Haven’t been able to get confirmation on that yet, though.
