0

Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin has passed away. He was only 53 years old. No cause of death has been revealed publicly.

Corrosion of Conformity announced Mullin’s passing via social media just moments ago. Their statement reads in full:

“It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a friend, a brother and pioneer. Reed you are loved and always will be. Lets all take a moment…”

Reed had missed several Corrosion of Conformity shows in the past several years due to health issues, including an alcohol-related seizure in June of 2016 in the middle of a tour. Mullins returned to join the band just days later despite bassist Mike Dean saying at the time that the band “will not enable Reed to continue killing himself on our watch.”

Last year, bassist Mike Dean elaborated on Mullin’s condition in an interview with Talk Toomey:

“Basically, he needs to take care of himself and get his shit together. And if that happens, the door’s open for him. And if it doesn’t, well, that’s how it is. People need to wanna help themselves. You can’t just push them to get help — they’ve gotta wanna help themselves.”

John Green, the band’s former drum tech, had been filling in for Reed behind the kit of late.

On behalf of everyone at MetalSucks, we send our best to Reed’s family, friends and bandmates.
