Moonspell Unveil Moody New Track, “All or Nothing”

I’ve seen Moonspell live exactly once, at Hellfest in France in 2019. I was never a huge fan, but I’ve long been a passive appreciator, and festivals like Hellfest with 90 or however many bands playing are precisely the kind of environment in which you get to see bands you otherwise wouldn’t go out of your way for. Looking at the schedule in that mid-afternoon moment to see where we should head next, I dragged my friends to see Moonspell promising that it would at least be interesting.

And it blew our fucking minds. I can’t give you a whole lot of specifics about that performance — it came at that moment on long festival days when you’re passing from lightly buzzed into moderately drunk, and well, you know — but I remember absolutely loving it, and my friends being equally enthused. It was a highlight of the fest for sure, at least as far as unexpected discoveries. And that’s what big fests are all about.

Moonspell have a new album on the way, Hermitage, and they just dropped its third single, “All or Nothing.” And it’s bringing right back to that moment at Hellfest; I can feel the energy under that tent, light outside but dark within, the vibe, the mood.

Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro explained of Hermitage:

“Hermitage is an open-hearted invitation to simplicity. To be humble. To be thankful. To serve you solace. Provide you comfort, entertainment. We sincerely hope this call reaches you. That you kindly accept what we offer. That you take our music with you to the place you must feel as yours. To your secret place, to your hermitage.”

Hermitage comes out on February 26 via Napalm Records; pre-order here. Check out previous single “Common Prayers” right there.
