Behemoth
The Shit Ov God (Nuclear Blast)
Let’s be real here. You’re likely in one of two camps: either you think this album sounds damn good despite the sometimes dodgy lyricism or you think Nergal is too cringe to stand and you hate everything they’ve done in recent years. For those with a more even keel and a willingness to actually listen to the damn thing, you might be pleasantly surprised to hear the musicianship in this one. Doesn’t overstay its welcome, has a couple killer tracks on it, and you can kinda overlook the lyrics to songs like “The Shit Ov God.”
Candlemass
Black Star (Napalm Records)
The O.G. epic doom metal band is back with an EP this time around. And while I don’t normally put EPs in this weekly feature, come the fuck on — it’s Candlemass. In addition to the two songs “Black Star” and “Corridors of Chaos”, this one covers of Black Sabbath’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and Pentagram’s “Forever My Queen.” Definitely worth highlighting and equally worth spending roughly 19 minutes to listen to the whole thing.

This Welsh noise rock/post-hardcore is back for their first new album in two decades, dropping some wild shit without any second thought. Definitely give this one a go if you like post-hardcore and/or want something inherently unique.
Sleep Token
Even In Arcadia (Label)
This week’s big release. Much like Behemoth above, you already know if this is for you. The singles have all been decidedly not metal, but there’s more to this release than just that handful of tracks. Go into this one with an open mind — it may not be for you and that’s okay.
Tetrarch
The Ugly Side Of Me (Napalm Records)
Nu metal is alive and well in 2025. Case and point are these guys, who are dropping their fourth full-length album today. Listening to the songs they released as singles, I can definitely hear the nu metal inspiration, so if you want some old school nu metal stylings couched in modern sound production, you might want to check this out.
