Two Upcoming Asphyx Shows Curiously Billed as Their “Last Time” on the U.S. East Coast

If there’s one thing to learn when it comes to metal bands and definitive statements like “we’ll never tour again” or “we’re retiring” or something equally huge like that, it’s that they usually walk back those statements in due time. Like Marvel characters, they’re never truly dead.

Yet when Dutch death metal outfit posted on Instagram that that their shows in Brooklyn next Wednesday and their Baltimore show next Friday will be their final appearances on the U.S. east coast, I was equally shocked and skeptical. No additional information was posted in addition to the announcement explaining why that would be the case, so it’s all just one huge question mark at this point.

I don’t think it means they’re breaking up, because I imagine something like that would come with a more definitive statement. What could be happening, as my buddy Greg Kennelty over at Metal Injection brought up, was that maybe they just want to avoid the U.S. for a while given everything that’s going on. That would certainly make sense, given the political climate and the cost to come over here in the first place, but it doesn’t explain the distinction of just the east coast. Maybe they’re just terrified of air travel in this part of the country? Who knows.

All we do know is that there’s no real statement clarifying their position about ever coming back to the U.S. east coast. And that means it could be any reason. But regardless of the why, it’s the situation that sucks the most for fans.

You can check out the full list of shows they’ve got lined up right now and decide if you’d like to see them before they eventually say they’re done for good.
