Kings of Thrash Release Cheesy as Hell Thrash Song “Lockdown”
Man… yikes. For a band that wants to pretend they’re the “kings” of thrash metal, Kings of Thrash put out probably one of the cheesiest thrash songs in a loooong time. Like not even in the “heh, this is so cheesy that it’s good” way, either. It’s got a certain low production value and low energy to it that just kinda bums me out as a fan.
For those that don’t remember, Kings of Thrash is the oftentimes Megadeth cover band featuring two ex-Megadeth members in bassist David Ellefson and guitarists Chris Poland and Jeff Young that occasionally puts out their own music. Don’t get me wrong, they are absolutely capable of putting out a good thrash metal track and have done so in the past, but this one? It definitely missed the mark.
As for the track itself, Young said “Lockdown” was “a cool mix of 80s thrash and punk vibes, plus four guitar solos (!!!) We had a lot of fun bringing this song to life!”
Ellefson also weighed in on the track, claiming that it was very reminiscent of the sort of old school thrash metal he was actually involved in back in the day.
“’Lockdown’ captures the true spirit of old school thrash metal with a lyric that can be seen as timely in this chaotic world we now live in.”
In addition to the newly released track, Kings of Thrash are going to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Youthanasia. If you want to catch them live, there are a buncha dates coming up this September. You can find the list of dates below.
