The Halo Effect’s Cover of “How The Gods Kill” is a Reminder That Danzig Was Good Once

0

There was a time, before the Elvis covers and getting knocked out backstage, that Glenn Danzig was the fucking man. His first few solo records are unassailable and of course his work as The Misfits’ frontman is timeless, but in the years since his talent has wanted and he’s moved on to comic books and making bad movies when he’s not touring on the Misfits nostalgia train.

But we’ll always have those killer Danzig tunes and Swedish melodic death metal outfit The Halo Effect took the time to put their own spin on the sinful classic “How The Gods Kill”, off the 1992 album Danzig III: How The Gods Kill.

The Halo Effect vocalist Mikael Stanne (yes, that Mikael Stanne) said getting to do this cover personally meant a lot to him.

“During my teenage years the darkness and allure of the early Danzig albums introduced me to a whole new way of thinking about what rock and metal could be. Glenn’s vocals and lyrics were also incredibly influential on this aspiring vocalist/lyricist.”

For those that don’t know, The Halo Effect is comprised of five former members of In Flames: guitarist Jesper Strömblad, drummer Daniel Svensson, bassist Peter Iwers, guitarist Niclas Engelin, and Stanne. So needless to say, this cover was always going to be good.

The Halo Effect are currently touring Europe, as most metal bands around this time are wont to do. You can find the full list of shows they’ve got planned below.
