Dying Wish
Flesh Stays Together (SharpTone Records)
Described as a “vicious wake up call,” this new record continues to push the Portland, Oregon-based band forward on their trajectory. There’s an undeniable energy in this release that shows itself in headbang-able grooves and unrepentant fury. Definitely turn this one up if you’re in a “next motherfucker that steps to me is getting a free nap” kind of mood.
Igorrr
AMEN (Metal Blade Records)
The brainchild of French multi-instrumentalist and producer Gautier Serre, Igorrr is definitely one of the more eclectic acts we’ve featured on MetalSucks. Yes, it’s epic and heavy as hell at times, but there are additional layers and curveballs on this thing that make it stand out from the other releases this week.
PeelingFlesh
PF Radio 2 (Unique Leader Records)
Slam/death metal outfit PeelingFlesh are back with an absolutely unhinged slab of tunes. It’s all thick riffs and unrelenting rhythms while Damonteal Harris’ vocals just go down some downright inhuman pathways. It’s chuggy, pissed off, and ignorant as fuck and that’s what makes PeelingFlesh who they are.
Revocation
New Gods, New Masters (Metal Blade Records)
Sweet googly moogly. This is the one. If there’s a single album to listen to this week, it’s Revocation’s New Gods, New Masters. This band’s been going for 25 years now (holy shit, where does the time go) and they continue to just write and release banger after banger after banger. Dave Davidson is easily one of the most inventive guitarists on the planet today and that fact is on full display from the moment you hit play. If you like your death metal draped in dark sci-fi, this is your jam. Hell, even if that’s not exactly your bag, everyone out there reading this site should be able to extract a ton of enjoyment out of this one.
The Vintage Caravan
Portals (Napalm Records)
Retro prog rock band The Vintage Caravan definitely illicit a certain mood through their music. There’s a level of charisma that flows within each track, with the title of this record being a nod to the Portuguese city of Porto. Each song is connected to the other through a number of interludes, or “Portals” as the band calls them, to create a listening experience that simply flows from beginning to end.
