Unauthorized Wayne Static and Tera Wray Documentary to Begin Production
The story of late Static-X frontman Wayne Static is a sad one, made even sadder by the story of his late wife Tera Wray. We lost Wayne to a dangerous cocktail of Xanax, alcohol, and other prescription drugs back in 2014, and Tera to suicide just two years later in 2016. It seems a documentary on their relationship is in the works by filmmaker, friend, and collaborator of Wayne’s, Matt Zane.
Production is scheduled to start in January 2026, with a crowdfunding campaign set to launch that month as well. He will be producing and directing the doc.
Zane had an intimate vantage point of their dynamic, having been close to Wayne for over a decade, and friends with Tera before that. He worked with Wayne on all of his solo videos following his departure from Static-X, including his final music video “Noise Revolution” with DMC, as well as “Assassins of Youth” and “Pighammer Promo.” As well, there was allegedly a docuseries already in the works about Wayne and Tera’s fairly tumultuous life together.
Still, it must be noted that neither Wayne or Tera’s family, nor any of the current or former members of Static-X are involved with or publicly endorsing the project.
“Most people are unaware that I knew Wayne for about 14 years, and I actually knew his wife Tera before him. We were all close, and I worked on every project he did after leaving Static-X.
“I filmed bits and pieces over the years, but we needed a few solid weeks in the desert at their house to finish it — that was the plan. Unfortunately, funding fell through. I know this is something Wayne and Tera wanted to get done, and they wanted me to do it. I feel I owe them this — to tell their story the way they wanted it told.”
To add more to project, Zane is hoping to hear from friends, colleagues and whoever else where may have been close to Wayne and Tera for interviews and the peeks into their life together. Zane has also confirmed the doc will feature some of Wayne’s previously unreleased music.
“There’s about an EP’s worth of material Wayne and I recorded for a movie Tera was doing, but his label stepped in and stopped it. Some of those ideas ended up on ‘Pighammer’, but the rest has been sitting in my archives. I’m revisiting it now and will finish some of it with help from A.I. technology.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Zane frames Wayne and Tera’s relationship. They were a beautiful couple, even in the midst of all the fire in their union. If you’ve got a story on the couple, you can reach out to Zane through EveryoneDiesTheMovie.com.
