Longtime MetalSucks Maniac Kye sent us a link to Buzznet, where live footage of the full song “Afterlife” is posted from the band’s upcoming Live DVD (name and release date TBA). Pretty fuckin’ cool if you ask me. But then again, what does my opinion count for? I’m just some douchebag with a website.

i love how being able to play your songs live has become something that is praised in music. im sorry, but if you cant play your songs live, you shouldnt be writing those songs. it should be a standard to be able to play your music, your a fucking musician.

Meh, I never liked their new album, but to some extent I like Avenged, and even though you are meant to be pull off your own songs like, some bands can’t, and nowadays it’s good to see bands can do it, and do it fucking well.

You kind of get a glimpse of it in this song, and anyone that went to Taste of Chaos probably already knows as well, but Matt has started screaming in their live performances again, particularly during Unholy Confessions , which’ll make this DVD an interesting experience for anyone that got into the band post-City of Evil.
That’s pretty impressive. I haven’t seen them live in years, I’m now inspired to see them again with their new elaborate stage setup and all kinds of fire everywhere.
Shadows’ voice is pretty impressive—I was under the impression that his vocal cords were dying a slow death post-Waking the Fallen. A7X is definitely awesome live–unlike their cousin band, Atreyu—jesus, I saw those guys and it was borderline painful. And I love “The Curse” too.

I’m a bit confused, I was under the impression Avenged Sevenfold would be hated at a site like this, considering most of their songs are about pussy and how it hurts their fewlingz ala Linkin Park, they dress/act like rappers, and don the emo/pop punk make-up extensively that you(ironically) mock Disturbed, who have never donned it, over. Also, is that posing and an excess of fancy lights? I recall something to tune of that’s another reason why Disturbed sucks in a previous article.
You guys are starting to crack me up, hypocrisy is just delicious, I’m definitely coming back here, this is what the kids call “the lulz” I believe.
This is also the hypocritical the view of Disturbed by a metal elitist friend of mine too, but he likes Coheed and Cambria, so what the hell, right?
As for Avenged Sevenfold, their guitars are fucking gorgeous, their singing is decent, their lyrics are mostly meaningless junk, so I don’t feel strongly about them as a band.
That definitely was a near-perfect performance; I still just wish they weren’t such self-absorbed douchescrotes.
I’ve seen A7X live a bunch of times since their first CD came out. Although I’m not really into the new stuff and the direction they took after Waking the Fallen I’m still impressed with the energy they give off in a live setting. Some of the craziest times I’ve had at a concert were during an A7X set and it looks like they can still get the kids all moving. Seems like they are trying to not give off such a douche bag vibe as well. After the success of city of evil and now the ST I think they got big heads and thought they were the greatest now they are looking a lot more like pros in the game.
I’ve passed on numerous A7X dates because of the over the top rock star attitude but I might have to check em out the next time they are around because 1. they still sound great live 2. still get the crowd pumped and moving 3. FIRE!!!

To the guy who compared Avenged to Disturbed, I would say the biggest difference is obviously in there music. I cannot confess to listening to whole Disturbed albums but all their singles are basically the same length, have the same syncopated type riffing and at least one weird nose by DD to mimic an animal.
I feel like more metal fans hate A7X because of the way they dress then actually breaking down there music which to me is just as rediculous as wearing a bunch of make up and everything else because it should obviously be about the music. Love em or hate em they have a lot of songs that are experimental and diverse more than almost any more mainstream band I can think of. Take songs like sidewinder and burn it down or little piece of heaven and scream. Back to Waking The Fallen they were still doing that with songs like Chapter Four and I won’t see you tonight.

OConnor Oh I didn’t compare the two bands, I was merely pointing out the sites hypocrisy, which is hilarious.. The singles are not the same length, if you’re talking about David’s “riffing” or the guitars I’m not sure, David doesn’t “riff” anymore, but granted on the guitars, and no, absolutely not, there have been numerous no-monkey-noises singles, the new album only has a “monkey noise” briefly on three tracks, and in fact one song has this kind of screaming seen from AX7 here on other songs during the climax of the song, which I’m still a bit iffy about.
As for Avenged Sevenfold acting like a bunch of wussy poser/rapper/emo types and getting praise from the supposedly “hardcore” metal site, still funny, and will remain funny for as long as I live and breathe. I also can appreciate their guitars, because they’re so melodic and harmonic while maintaining incredible skill, you don’t see that often, but they act like dicks, dress like dicks, and beyond the guitars the lyrics are boring and there’s nothing else to really “love” about them.

I’m not the biggest A7X fan mostly because they are more pretentious than Godsmack. From the look of this vid, they have their lighting cues figured out ala Disturbed, it doesn’t seem really obvious though. Dan Donegan is right, when you are playing arenas and putting on a big production, it makes sense to have this stuff figured out. Now if DEP is playing an arena show, I wouldn’t want the lighting cues and other shit. I want to see them get on stage and go fucking insane! Different band and they present a different sense of danger too. At any second, one of those guys could go flying off of a PA stack and crush a few people in the crowd of jump off the drum riser and break their tailbone. Watching DEP is like a ballet of car crashes!
ANYWAY, kudos to A7X for being able to play their songs live and actually giving a shit about putting on a good show. Too many bands don’t care and take it for granted, no matter what they tell an interviewer.
This is impressive, unless that is, they’ve doctored the vocals/guitars with overdubs. Wouldn’t be the first time – cough!! Kiss Alive cough!!
avenged sevenfold is a good band. they kick ass live. its so irritating to see people bash them just because they don’t scream. i understand this is a metal site and all, but c’mon. it reminds of debating over music in 6th grade when kids would be like “thats not fast enough for me, they dont even use double bass!” or “they suck! they dont even scream!”

There are those bands who are “br00tal” for the sake of being “br00tal” without any thought whatsoever to the music. And there are those fans who feel they must only like growled or screamed music, because to believe otherwise is un-metal or unmanly. It’s the equivalent of the the guy whose truck has 36 inch tires and an 18 inch lift. It’s a testerone/proving-one’s-manhood thing.
That’s not to say all screaming/growling is bad. But on the other end of the spectrum, just being commercial is not by itself bad. Some people will always automatically hate you if you start to become popular just because you became popular.
I think Avenged 7-fold’s new album is their best not because it’s more “radio friendly”; rather I think it’s their best because they have written better songs. Period.

You make an interesting point, sometimes I wonder, if Disturbed weren’t very popular, like say, Opeth, but popular enough to get noticed, again like Opeth, if they would suddenly gain acceptance among this elitist underground/extreme crowd that sum up and judge their music based solely on their first album.

At the end of the day… Avenged Sevenfold are a great band. They write their lyrics, for the fans to see them live. And judging by how i saw them live supporting iron maiden at twickenham. Id say they do a good job at putting on a performance too. Yes, they dont scream anymore. But you cant judge a band on just that, thats not your place to say. Avenged Sevenfold play great songs, great live. As for you nonce’s saying theyre emo: your right! Their lyrics are EMOtional and have meanings. PRICKS.
they put an amazing show live. i have sean them twice. they are great musically. They are the farthest from emo.
