Navarro may be a stain, but I didn’t find this too offensive. It’s one-sided, to be sure (politically), but a Hannity interview would be too.

I would totally go bowling and talk issues and other Deep Thoughts with Otep. She seems like a good sort with whom to plan a revolution. Or something.
And I dug her/their first EP too… or at least I did back in 2001 or whenever that was. But yeah, pretty stinko since then.

Sevas Tra was a pretty decent nu metal album, and I felt that they really found their sound on House of Secrets. I was hoping they would progress even further over time, but their new album was amazingly weak, and I blame it all on the lineup changes.

I think Otep is really smart and i read alot of her stuff over on Nonelouder, she basically makes me feel like an idiot because she knows so much and can write so well. But she is smokin, at least i think so, and last time i checked Dave Navarro was banging Carmen Electra, and it bugs the shit out of me when good looking people have all ideas and answers for ugly people. Um, No you don’t, because your hot and shit always comes easier to you because of that. So keep all the life coaching to yourself.

Otep would be better if some of her political ideas and opinions were based on something other than screamed hyperbole. It’s nothing different than the trash that the media’s been shoveling out from months, it’s just coming from a different mouthpiece. Yes, I’ve read her political rants, and just like all the other pro-Obama stuff out there now, there’s very little fact, quite a bit of name-calling, and absolutely nothing rational about it. “IF YOU DON’T VOTE FOR OBAMA YOU’RE A FUCKING BUSH SUPPORTER BECAUSE MCCIN IS JUST LIKE BUSH BECAUSE THE LIBERAL MEDIA SAYS SO AND OBAMA IS LIKE JESUS AND IS GOING TO SAVE THE UNITED STATES BY INSTITUTING SOCIALISM BUT IT’S NOT REALLY SOCIALISM BECAUSE THE MEDIA TOLD ME SO!”

Well, a tip. Some people, like me, who support McCain are doing so only because we absolutely despise Obama and everything he stands for, not because we particularly endorse McCain or his principles, and because we’re realists and know that while voting for a third party is great in principle, it’s simply a vote lost at this point. I’d rather spend my vote trying to keep someone I don’t like out of office rather that putting someone I like in. It’s a sad thing Ron Paul didn’t have enough support to make it – and you’d honestly think that someone as “against the system” as Otep is would have been screaming HIS name, since he tried to buck the two-party system, rather than someone like Obama who is nothing more than another generic liberal living in dream-world and who thinks socialism is a good thing. Oh well. No one ever said debates related to politics were based in logic and rationality, sort of like debates about whether Jessica Biel or Elisha Cuthbert is hotter, whether atheism or Christianity is right, or whether Disturbed sucks and Trivium rocks or not (and for you illiterate motherfuckers, that’s a direct reference to the old adage that “Friends don’t talk women, politics, or religion” because nothing works faster to piss people off).

When she’s not stuck on the political bullshit, yeah, she does write about some interesting stuff that most other people would be afraid to, but the whole political posturing bit gets very old, very quickly – especially as, like I said, none of it is really based on anything other than lots of hyperbole and popular opinion. Some of her diatribes on such things as the positions of lesbians in modern society are good reading.

Aside from that, I’ve liked the band since Sevas Tra. Unlike a lot of people, I couldn’t give a fuck less what the band members think, preach, do, screw, snort or drink. A band is for music, not for me to form opinions on current events from what the members think. Sorta like Hollywood celebrities thinking their opinions are worth more than the common person’s opinion because they’re famous, but that’s another topic, although related to this. House of Secrets sucked with all the “bullshit filler tracks” of whispers and shit – just make it flat-out fucking metal. The Ascension is better, but still not as raw as Sevas Tra. Then again, I liked Chimaira’s original demo stuff better than their produced albums, too. Dynamics over studio slickness.

Otep music is dated, and I agree with her talent for writing she could do a lot more. I give her kudos for blogging with articulation, and at least being involved with some sort of social movement with her website. Shame my fiancee has more of a chance of scoring with her than I would. Now that I think about it… I would be happy to be an observer.

i like obama, however he is not christ. and i hate how people act like he is anything close. he’s flip flopped on positions like any other politician and attacked his opponent like any other politician.

ahh.. but I did enjoy the reading, though I did not agree with most you said..

as for everyone’s complaints about Otep and her ‘moaning and wailing like a nutjob on acid trying to speak in tongues’ (including those who wrote the similar things)… I’m sure she would be sorry that she put on intense, emotional and entertaining shows as opposed to most bands. I’m also sure you would rather see shitty bands with no talent stand still, showing no emotion, revealing no stage presence at all, as they are droning out their lyrics.

as far as writing goes, it has been hard for me to find ANYONE who could match the intelligence or creativity that goes into her lyrics. I would honestly love to see what any of you could come up with.

all in all, I fucking loved all of their cds, minus the ascension. though the ascension would’ve been the shit coming from any other band, I guess I just expected too much and got too little from that cd. the wait killed all of us I believe… I sort of wish I never heard it or at least did not know who it was. her screams are getting weaker as are her lyrics… Evil J however…. is still amazing and the only reason I would listen to that album.
