ROADRUNNER UNITED SHOW FINALLY TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 at 2:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

On December 15, 2005, I did one of the silliest things I’ve ever done in the name of metal. After spending fifteen hours on a plane back to New York from Israel and jet lagged to the point where I was wobblin’ like Ozzy Osbourne, I went straight from the airport to drop off my luggage at my apartment to Times Square to see the one night only Roadrunner United concert at the Nokia Theatre. I knew it would be torturous to try and stay awake those few extra hours, but I also knew shows where seemingly at least one member of every and any good metal band that ever sneezed in the general vicinity of Roadrunner are all in the same place jamming together was pretty much a once in a lifetime experience.

I was glad I sacrificed the sleep at the time, ’cause the show turned out to be killer – I mean, fucking EVERYONE played that night – and at the time, I wondered why the hell no one filmed the show and gave it a DVD release.

Well, three years later I get my answer. Roadrunner will release the concert on December 9, and unless whomever filmed it somehow completely failed to capture the vibe that night, I can already pretty much guarantee that this DVD will be worth whatever you’re charged for it. Did I mention that EVERYONE PLAYED THAT NIGHT?

In case you don’t understand what I mean when I say “everyone played that night,” check out the show’s full track listing after the jump. For me, the highlight of the evening was a piss-drunk Brian Fair falling on his ass in the middle of covering Soulfly’s “Eye for an Eye,” but the show didn’t really have a lowlight. I even still have the program they handed out that night!

  1. Cisco says:

Freakin’ SWEEEEEET!!! I got the Roadrunner United compilation the day it came out and it still rocks today!!! The Dagger is probably my favorite track on that record, but all the other tracks stand on their own as well.

  2. Fink says:

Jesse and Howard on the Killswitch song… that’s kinda cool. I always liked Jesse just a little bit better; I think Howard is awesome and definitely has a more powerful voice and probably a better range, but there was something I really liked about Jesse that I can’t exactly put my finger on. It may very well be that he just came first, who knows.

Plus, My Last Serenade was the first Killswitch song I ever heard, and it’s still one of my favorites.

  3. Johnny Death says:

I just hope they kept the cameras clear of Keith Caputo’s cucumber-stuffed skin-tight pants.

  4. cink says:

Oh…My…God. Can’t wait to see the Killswitch Engage’s performance with Howard AND Jesse.

  5. Roadrunner United Live (from ‘05) finally getting DVD release…

I am very excited about this. Almost 3 years in the making, the live RoadRunner United concert will be released as a DVD. I went to this show in December of 2005 at the Nokia Times Square Theater here in NYC, and it was totally killer. Being able to s…

  6. John says:

wow, a lot of songs I want to see.

  7. Will says:

Question… what took them so long?

  8. CarlosRamirez says:

    What…no Toxic or Atrophy covers?

    Haha

  9. jesse says:

Wow, I got fucking goosebumps just reading the lineup. Pretty much the same feeling I got reading the track listing/lineup months before the CD came out. People may talk a lot of shit about Roadrunner due to their Nickelback/Theory of a Deadman promoting ways.. but you can’t say these guys haven’t had a huge fucking influence on metal in the last damn near 30 years.

God damn.. is it December yet?

  10. jesse says:

Oh yeah.. lead guitar on (sic)?

  11. Kye says:

    *splooge*

  12. MickFNS says:

Yeah, this show was great: I do recall that they had a sign near the elevator saying there
was filming/taping going on, and later saw a cameraman near one of the 2 open bars (that’s
what really made this show fun, though). I thought most of the performances were great, but Keith Caputo stole the show. Oh- the other thing I remember was the video screen early in the night had all over the RR acts from over the years: and when Type O was on, people were cheering like crazy- but when Nickelback came on… just the whole room booing. That was funny.

  13. bob fossil says:

    Fuckin’ Savage!

  14. Elpants says:

    Pass

  15. seveword says:

Hot damn…Andreas Kisser playing lead and rhythm on most of these songs? Sign me up.
Not that, you know, any of those other guys are less talented, but still…

  16. [...] us. The Roadrunner United CD is interesting, but unequal; however as Metalsucks reports, (almost) all the big names from Roadrunner’s history are on the DVD, so it will be a must-have for all of [...]

  17. FTD says:

Man, I’m getting this just to see Ripper doing Abigail and Curse of the Pharoahs.

Say what you will about his time in Judas Priest and Iced Earth, the man can rock the falsetto like no other.

  18. [...] I’ve already made it pretty clear how stoked I am that the Roadrunner United concert from ‘05 is finally coming out on DVD, and based on the comments a lot of you left here on MetalSucks, it sounds like I’m not alone. [...]
