AT LAST: HEAR GOD FORBID’S EARTHSBLOOD FOR YOURSELF
Monday, February 9th, 2009 at 9:36pm by Axl Rosenberg
Well, we’ve been hyping it for months, and now the time has finally arrived: God Forbid’s latest opus, Earthsblood, is streaming in its entirety on their MySpace page right now.
There really isn’t much left to say right at this point. We think the album is awesome; Vince will post a full review soon going into greater detail. So for now, just go check out the album for yourself, and then come back here to discuss.

It’s pretty good.
I guess.
There is no way in hell that it’s better than Wrath!
I ripped the album so feel free to download it and hear it until it comes out! bitrate 128-192

I haven’t really given any of God Forbid’s albums a chance since Determination (Which is one of my favorite albums of all time.) But I really am digging Earths Blood. Good stuff…
I’m just gonna toss this out there, but does anybody else, like myself, hear quite a significant black metal influence in the new songs?
@ palinaborted
just keep on listening and you will start to think otherwise
the rest of the songs are just sappy as hell.
Hey God Forbid did you happen to lose your balls while writing the album? What happened to all the killer riffs from before? Why do all your songs feel like you trying to right an anthem? Bat the Angels is probably the best song on the album, though, only because of the ending other than that; serious let down……especially after something like Constitution of Treason
***write an anthem*
I found the album to be more anthemic, but the “progressive” nature of many of the songs don’t lend themselves to be labeled “pop anthems” in the same vein you would label a killswitch or all that remains song. not that I don’t like those bands, but god forbid is my favorite (no sucking up).
Doesn’t sound bad at all, and I noticed the black metal influence too but not that significant.
Ok I take it back and I apologize for making uninformed comments.
This is definitely way better than their previous stuff. “Walk Alone” and “Bat the Angels” are truly amazing. I’m gonna listen to Earthsblood again later. Oh, this album might change my attitude towards GF.
I listened to the first 6 or so tracks, pretty kick-ass. Couldn’t finish the rest though, had to get off the net to take care of some stuff… Probably re-listen sometime tomorrow night.
Im through 7 tracks.
It is a very good album so far. I just dont like the screamed vocals. Im pickier about my vocals that I listen to then the music sometimes.
Fav tracks are “The New Clear” and “Shallow” after listening to 6 songs.
This is actually kicking my ass. Defied my expectations totally. Title track is the fav atm.
This album is superior than the new LOG! I was expecting the “typical” GF album, but the guys have pushed themselves over the boundaries. Truly a great piece of metal!!! \m/
The first couple tracks also reminded me of black metal. “The Rain” seemed a bit like Dimmu Borgir … and while Opeth isn’t black metal, I thought I heard a few Opeth influences in there.
But I might be making the Dimmu association only because “The Discovery” was a Dimmu-type intro.
I like it so far, though. It’ll be worth it to catch them in Louisville this May with Lamb of God. Should be a good show.
It gets a long drawn out “meh” from me.
This dudes voice is disgusting, and the instrumental was not overly impressive. Empire of the gun, the one song i was kinda getting into, the vocals ruined it for me. His voice completely didn’t complement the guitars and created a clash of just unappealing noise, then half way through the song everything went to hell, what a disaster. I don’t really see what all the hype is about with these guys, slightly above mediocre at best. If i want to listen to power chords half the time i will go listen to blink 182, at least the drummers good in their band.
It’s pretty good, but they seriously cant write a decent chorus. I’ve yet to hear one from this band.
I think it managed to be even worse than their last album, which was pretty meh but at least had a few standout tracks. This just sounds so same-y and I bet you fuckers give it 5 horns as well, it’s totally undeserving of anything over 3.
There is no way this is a good as LoG’s Wrath anyway.
But fuck this metal shit, seriously, the new Propagandhi just leaked and I’ve got such high expectations for it I’m not expecting to listen to another metal record until Mastodon give me some Crack.
its great actually
the title song is my favourtie so far
although bat the angels and empire of the gun are sick
i havnt given the other 3 a good listen yet
i say 3 because he rain
war of attrition
and walk came out weeks ago and ive given them atleast a hundred listen
can anyone spell best album of 09 so far?
Tell me right now – WHERE THE FUCK DID THE NEW PROPAGANDHI ALBUM LEAK?????????
I pretty much liked everything God Forbid has ever put out; I loved the rawness of “Determination”, but actually thought “Gone Forever” was their best OVERALL release. Wasn’t a huge fan of “Constitution of Treason” but didn’t hate it either, and thought the songs played well live at least. As for this album (after almost a full listen), I am definitely digging what they have put together. I like the direction of this much more than, “Constitution.’ Someone mentioned they were trying too hard to write an anthem on this album, which I thought was MUCH more apparent on “Constitution” (one of the main reasons I think this album kicks “Constitution”’s ass). This album has drawn out, progressive type tracks that go all over the landscape…”Constitution” was the more formulaic, anthemic record..So I’m not sure where that person was coming from.
And the US “No Fear” (does that company still make clothing; like the circa 1997 t-shirts…or just those drinks?) tour, regardless of the name, is going to be a must see for the Spring. God Forbid, with Children of Bodom, and Lamb of motherfucking God headlining? Count me in.
That first main thrashy riff on “Shallow” kicks some serious ass. Like Slayer ass. I’m sorry, I’m a GF fanboy.
i really dig the music for the most part, and i respect the hell out of trying to branch out and sing, but when the best you can say about it is that theyre hitting the notes most of the time its time to move on and try something else i think. anyone know what this record is tuned to? im kind of shocked cause it sounds pretty detuned but not messy like a lot of other bands that do that. dallas?
they use 7-strings. 7-strings standard are BEADGBE. I think they might have tuned down to A, from what I read. not sure if it’s AEADGBE or ADGCFAD, and if they do that in all or some of the songs. maybe Dallas can elaborate.
I actually think the singing is good, but on songs like walk alone, not sure if he’ll be able to hit the high notes live. phil labonte has trouble with that as well live, but he has to switch from singing to screaming and vice versa, brutal.
*phil labonte of all that remains
Number 3, YAWN
@Aaron, its all over the bloggernets bro.
Just go to blogsearch.google.com and type in “Propagandhi – supporting caste”, there will be a good few results for it.
The album is mostly ADGCFAD. Bat The angels is in GCGCFAD. Shallow is in Eflat.
I think that’s the scope of it.
Glad you dig the record.
i loved determination and was really amped for the follow up…. but i knew by the ep released before gone forever that GF were no longer going to be a band i enjoyed. and the portent of the ep was right.
i always just tolerated byrons vocals… i thought he pretty much sucked (even on determination), but the music was so damn good i could still really enjoy the overall product. but then gone forever came out with more streamline, conventional songs and also clean vocals. i’m a big fan of clean vocals, but GF don’t seem to be able to take a trick vocally.. because these clean vocals suck. so instead of providing a vocal respite from byron, they only compound the problem.. probably should’ve gone with the 5 point 0 vocalist when they could….
anywho, i’ve always checked out successive GF releases in the (apparently vain) hope that they’ll come close their former zenith…..but no. earthsblood, to me, is one further step to the nadir. oh well. i might go listen to determination part II now
trying to sound profound alexwank? you’re coming off as a douche. just sayin’
Dallas,
Seriously awesome album. Terrific songwriting. Digging the clean vocals as well.
I’ve been waiting for this album since constitution (which was awesome) and was dreading a mediocre album since most bands run out of steam after many awesome releases (determination, gone forever, constitution). I was blown away when you guys put it up for streaming on myspace. Looking forward for Feb 24th and to see you live. Peace.
alexwank: Kill yourself.
profound??…. it’s a 3 minute stream of consciousness opinion you would hear pass my lips if my thoughts on GF were asked on the street…..
if that passes for pseudo-profundity where you’re from, i suggest you move out of the sticks
jeff: well said. what a compelling, powerful rebuttal
Determination is still in some ways my favorite, but this always slays, no doubt. Some of the cleans are a little iffy, other than that I have no complaints.
It isn’t just you with the black metal, I particularly noticed Dissection and later Immortal influence here and there.
alexwank: it’s just funny that you’re using words like zenith and nadir to try make your points sound intelligent, when the rest of what you’re saying doesn’t seem to be that.
I like it. Im not gonna fuckin give some paragraph why either, I just fuckin like it. Wayyyy better than Constitution of Treason, after that record i stopped listening to god forbid and now with this one i can enjoy them again.
I dig it… I need a few more listens for it to really sink in, but I think it’s an excellent album. I personally have preferred their more recent work, and I like that they’re evolving their sound a bit.
I gotta admit, the record is growin on me a lot. I like it more everytime i hear it.
It’s okay. I can see why people dig it so much. The musicianship is great, but I’ve kinda grown out of this type of metal.
I’ll try to keep an open mind and give it a few more listens. It may grow on me.
Very solid album, Dallas. Just one question: what happened to the cover of Muse’s “Stockholm Syndrome”? I was quite looking forward to it…
Why is there so much metalcore on this website? I listened to some of the new God Forbid just for shits, and it’s good for what it is. But it sounds like every other metalcore album out there. I mean, I realize how hard it is to sound original in a thirty-year old genre, but metalcore bands don’t even sound like they’re trying. Take bands like Mastodon, on the other hand. Their music may very well stand the test of time.
