POLL: WHICH LAMB OF GOD ALBUM IS THE BEST?
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 at 10:48am by Vince Neilstein
If you’ve been patiently waiting for legal means to hear the entire new Lamb of God album Wrath — and you don’t trust Axl’s controversial review of the record — now’s your chance: it’s streaming in its entirety on the band’s MySpace page, 6 days ahead of release.Sit on that for a minute. Many of you have had the album for a little while already. So… what do you think? It seems hard to believe, but Lamb of God are now SIX records into their career. Which is the best one? Vote, then tell us in the comments why you’re right and everyone else is indubitably wrong.

Just finishing up wrath now and I still feel that ashes of the Wake is their best Effort to date.
I’m not the guy who insist that they sucked after their Demo!
I kinda think they all suck. The only decent one was Sacrament and even that wasn’t anything special.
Lamb of God is possibly one of the WORST metal bands of our time.
STOP BLOGGING ABOUT THEM AND GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!
can anyone say “over produced”….or… “polishing a turd”?
Ashes of the Wake will always hold first place because it has the “first lamb of god album I heard” factor. That album got me into the band so it’s special for me. Although depending on the style I’m feeling I may enjoy an older one more one week. This new one seems like I’ll enjoy it, but we’ll see after time. Right now I dig it.
You know, I’m not a fan of many bands. That being said I don’t feel the need to read stories about them, then post
“DEEEMOO BURGER SUXZ BALLZ!!!!!”
Thanks for filling up comment sections with pointless shit.
“Ashes Of The Wake” would be their best. With that said, “Wrath” is certainly not a bad effort.
I actually like the direction Wrath was taken and there is stuff on there that I find more interesting than Sacrament, which I thought to be rather stale (I listened to it a few times and now only go back occasionally to listen to select songs).
However, Ashes of the Wake, was the band’s best effort so far, with songs like “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For”, “Hourglass”, “The Faded Line”, “Break You” and “What I’ve Become” it is very hard to top.
From my initial listen through of Wrath I think it one of those transformative albums that a band sometimes need to make in their career.
If you look at other metal bands In Flames made Come Clarity which brought back some of the old styles and was a necessary step to bridge the gap between the sound on albums like Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to Your Escape and the old stuff. Then they put out A Sense of Purpose which I loved.
Metallica put out St. Anger and then followed it with what was their best album in years, Death Magnetic.
Sometimes bands just need to step back and figure out how it all started. To me Wrath sounds like the band trying to capture that rawness of Burn the Priest through As the Palaces Burn albums while still incorporating the new elements they picked up on Ashes and Sacrament.
Does this mean the next album will be an awesome one? Who knows. For now I’m going to sit back and enjoy the release of Wrath on Tuesday. I’m sure the album will grow on me and my guess is it will be tied for second place with As the Palaces Burn when all is said and done for me.
Everyone knows it’s Palaces. That one sounded fresh. The other albums (including this one) are just more of the same. The new album is alright as it goes, but its been the same shit for a while now.
But I do concur the early judgment regarding Dimmu Borgir and their ball sucking antics. Never a truer word said, Mr Slovie.
Gospel…no fucking contest. Everything succeeding is an unwashed pot of shit.
Dimmu Borgir – Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is an amazing album. Their new stuff is subpar. Check out Old Man’s Child. If Dimmu were good (i.e. they let Galder write all their songs), they would produced talented music like that of OMC.
Ashes of the Wake is a fantastic album. As Palaces Burn is also quite good. Wrath seems better than Sacrament after the first few listens. Sacrament seemed like a step into melodic death to me, and a step away from groove (read ‘Pantera-esk’) metal in tandem. I love melodeath, but other bands do it much better. Wrath seems like step back into the groove sound, but it is also an evolution.
I like the new album, but I couldn’t say only after a few listens as to whether I love it.
There are so many laughable assbags on this post I don’t know where to begin. This album is great, much better than Sacrament, but falls (for me) somewhere between Ashes of the Wake and As the Palaces Burn, with Ashes of the Wake being my favorite. There are some great songs, some weak ones, and they sound amazing at this point in their career.
Vincent about nailed it for me, except I would reverse Ashes and Palaces. Considering how bad the production is on Palaces (how could Devin Townsend fuck that up so badly?), the songs are incredible. Palaces was also one of the first albums to break me loose from nu metal, and so I hold it in high regard. I remember the first time I heard ‘11th Hour’… it freaked me out.
I love all the hatred, though… it’s funny that you guys think people will stop listening to them if you declare their music to be shit.
Its all preference. Everyone has different opinions so stop losing your minds trying to convince each other that what you prefer is the best. And for those who don’t like them: Go away, we are tired of you bitching about your inability to appreciate great music.
Personally:
1. Ashes of the Wake
2. Wrath
3. As the Palaces Burn
4. Sacrament
5. New American Gospel
6. Burn the Priest
Ashes of the Wake is a really solid straight forward metal record, but as a whole they are pretty average. I like them in short 3-4 songs bursts, but i cant get through a full record. I saw them at Ozzfest 2007 and they bored me to death after a few songs.
I must add I have never heard a note of Dimmu Borgir and was only using them in my example. If I do one day find out that they suck monkey balls, I assure all you DB fans, I won’t waste time writing posts about them. :-)
Ok, one post. I just watched a video on youtube and I will say it was a lot funnier than Braveheart.
without a doubt Ashes Of The Wake! That album personally saved my life @ the darkest time of my life. It has been an anthem for me till this day! Wrath sounds like a good album I just need to listen to it a couple more times. Songs kind of get lost in drumming. Don’t get me wrong I love Chris but it sounds the same in some songs.
Burn The Priest.
ashes of the wake sounds alot like as the palaces burn, wich is good cause when i think lamb of god i think of as the palaces burn. that was lamb of gods prime, the vocals on those 2 cds are just soo brutal. older stuff is way too death corish for my taste, and the new stuff seems to me that their popularity is going to their head and they are trying to apeal to the masses
Nice opinion you got brewing there. Why is there always someone who gets in their head that a band sold them out as soon as they start to write better music? I wouldn’t want to play in a band where my musical needs couldn’t be satisfied. No band can progress if they keep playing the same shit over and over again. This applies to wrath. Songs like In Your Words, Grace, We Die Alone and Set To Fail are a step in a new direction. They are all awesome because I can hear the bass, drums don’t sound like cans, guitars have found some muscle and mixing is a lot better. But most importantly – they are not just distorted riffs with randy screaming over them. Wrath has melodies, riffs and all the good stuff.
1.Wrath
also to Eric, sounds to me your trying to justify at anger and inflames new stuff….
fuck you go die
Palaces- Devin Townsend clearly brought out the best that LOG has to offer. Their newer stuff just seems to be lacking the intensity of Palaces and New American Gospel and the feeling of something new and crushing that those two albums had (cant say I’m to big on BTP though)
to taog36:
St. Anger was and still is OK. The production was crap and Bob Rock sucks. Some of the songs were catchy (“Dirty Window” “Unnamed Feeling”), but I could give two shits about trying to defend it.
As for the new In Flames I think it is a solid CD, besides that one longer radiohead wannabe song. (And my favorites are Jester Race and Colony so suck it).
52 fucking idiots voted for Wrath.
Stop living in the past.
They are all full of epic failure.
@lamb of god blows – I’ll second the “polishing a turd” remark.
Fuck LOG and their same-as-every-other-shite-metal-band bullshit. Stop swabbing their assholes with your tongue please. It’s obnoxious.
Gonna have to say
1. As the Palaces Burn
2. Ashes of the Wake
3. Wrath
4. Sacrament
Palaces is by far the best album. Like others in here have said it’s the freshest, with the most memorable songs, but poorly produced and mixed in my opinion. Ashes is good and nicely mixed while Sacrament sounded too overproduced and tight for me. Wrath has 2 of my favorite new songs now (the intro the passing and in your words) but lacks something, something more concrete. Still, with songs like In your words and grace surpass most of everything on Sacrament for me. I hope they take these “acoustic” approaches further cause the lil that is on this new cd is incredible.
Ashes is their best to me, closely followed by Palaces.
Wrath so far is good, haven’t got the time to listen to the whole thing yet.
LAMB OF GOD SUCK BLOOD SOAKED BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only heard the latest three albums. I would say Sacrament is my fave coz it has more melodic stuff but Wrath is a close second after a few listens. (Sometimes you just need to feel the music.lol)
actually every single one SUCKS. It can be cool for one listening but after that it gets boring. Ok if you are 15 years old than maybe you CAN listen to this crap.
I dont get this site – you write that Korn sucks but you love God Forbid, Lamb Of God or any o this shitty bands? Yeah guys can play guitar pretty good (i mean they could be music teachers for beginners) but apart of that what makes them better then fuckin Korn or Deftones? Well Korn at least have two good albums – this guys dont have even two good songs.
Love Palaces but feel the production did it a disservice
But I consider Ashes to be a rare thing, a modern classic metal album. Great songs, great sound.
Sorry for being such a douche in my comments for the Wrath review. You guys just really got under my skin. That being said…
I finally get Sacrament. Lamb of God’s last album, the one that left long-time fans scratching their heads and brought armies of new fans into the fold. Wrath is not an experimental album. It is a return. If anything, Sacrament is the experimental album. By experimental I mean a change from their previous efforts, though hardly original within the metal genre. Shortly after the release of Ashes of the Wake, the band signed to a major label and appeared on a host of high profile, big venue (i.e. arena) tours. The band has stated in interviews following Sacrament’s release that there was pressure from the label, not as to what to write, but just to give them an album they could release. Caught up in the emotions and momentum of the moment, I think the band wrote the definitive arena (rock) metal album of this decade. The choruses could not be more perfectly designed for arena sing-a-longs and many verses are memorable enough to lets crowd handle vocal duties. The best example of this is, “Blacken the Cursed Sun.” The album’s guitar parts and over abundance of solos allow a spotlight to illuminate one of the two guitarists at all times. Sacrament was perfect album for where they were at the time…playing arenas in front of tens of thousands of people nightly. Even the artwork for the album was a change of pace. Sure, k3n did the work, but it was not his signature Lamb of God style.
Wrath is not the next logical step in the bands progression from Sacrament. It is the next logical step from Ashes of the Wake. Sacrament was an album the band needed to make at the time. Undoubtedly, they will continue to play arenas in support of Wrath, but they have their album’s worth of arena anthems in their catalog and out of the way. On their upcoming tours I guarantee that it will be during the Sacrament songs that they have the sing-a-longs and extended solos.
Mr. Mike I think you have hit the nail on the head… good one.
relaxiknowarchie, thank you. I finally feel like I was able to accurately and appropriately express myself.
Anybody who votes for anything aside from NAG or ATPB is a faggot
Also, anyone who says they’ve never release anything good is a faggot
And anyone who says Sacrament is the best is a huge faggot
then im proud of being faggot. Its still so much better than listening to Lamb Of God.
First things first all you mothe fucker that say lamb of god “SUCKS” you are all full of shit
you cant say lamb of god “sucks”, because at this moment they are the biggest thing in metal, you just have some personal grudge against them. Second all you other mother fuckers who are actually voting for your favorite LOG album, you are not a lamb of god fan. The true LOG fan does not squander the petty indifferences between LOG albums, but appriciates each album for its own incomparable uniqueness
Mmmm, I am a raging homosexual then. Not only that, but I didn’t vote! Whew, Just because they are huge in the mainstream metal world, doesn’t make them good. I mean, c’mon, Coldplay is huge in the mainstream, yet they still manage to blow goats.
DamagedMike is spot on. Wrath is a return to form in my eyes, and I loved Sacrament btw. But this is the Palaces LOG that I became hooked on in 2003.
As The Palaces Burn is my favorite by far, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Wrath lately and I really think the band has vastly improved their playing skills on the album. The drums are a prime example. Chris Alder has always been a very tight drummer, but on this album he has really stepped up his game and is even cleaner than before (I’m a drummer if you can’t tell.)
First off…..FUCK ALL OF YOU WHO SAY LAMB OF GOD SUCK!!!
Chris Adler is one of the best drummers (if not THE best) on this earth and the band as a whole is incredibly talented whether it be their riff writing, overall composition and i think Randy is a great fuckin screamer so all haters can suck a dick!!!
Secondly….for me picking my favorite Lamb if God album is like a parent being forced to pick their favorite child. I love all of the LoG albums and it is impossible for me to pick a favorite
Neil Peart, of Rush is the best drummer on this Earth…Just FYI.
Yes man – you convince me! LOG are fuckin GODS. They so talented i cant believe how they can record 10 songs that sounds exactly the same.
How can you say he’s even in the top 10 of best drummers? There is nothing special about Adler or the band in general. Especially after Sacrament. Randy is a cock sucking, egotistical faggot that is a disgrace to metal.
\m/ LONG LIVE BODOM \m/
Ashes of the Wake.Hands down.Great album.
1. Ashes Of The Wake
2. Sacrament
3. As The Palaces Burn
4. Wrath
5. New American Gospel
6. Burn The Priest
Honestly I like every album , almost all their songs are good.I also really like were they are going with wrath its got a nice flow.
LOG FTW
New American Gospel is the best, then it gets worse. Except Ashes which is better than Palaces. I’ve never listened to Burn the Priest so I can’t say shit about them. They all rock, hard, though Wrath kinda sucks. I hardly consider it LoG.
1. New American
2. Ashes
3. Palaces
4. Sacrament
7. Wrath
Waaaaaaaalk with me in heeeeeeeellllll!
