SCAR SYMMETRY IS FOR MANLY MEN

Scar Symmetry is officially everything wrong with melodeath without anything that made the genre great in the first place. I’ll just leave it at that.
Count me as another who must not be manly, because I think SS is pretty shitty. I second Mancubus that SS is everything wrong with melodeath music.
CRAPPETICRAPPPPCRAPPP!! AND SHIT IN YOUR ASSHOLE! er… crap!
Scar Symmetry is everything wrong with melodeath? Never heard of Sonic Syndicate? Oh no wait, that’s a bad example there more of a pop-punk band…..nevermind
Song rocks btw!
just another over produced melodeath band… i mean what is wrong with the genre, a lot of the recordings have lost that edge. I havent seen SS live before, so I have no idea whether they can reproduce this sound live, but I doubt the vocalists sings and growls so well live, especially when he quickly switches between the two.
Another case of overproduction…the new soilwork stuff, which is recorded so cleanly and gives off an unreal and unmetal tone. almost no edge to the album. (dont know if I’m phrasing this the right way or using the right words) however, you go to their shows, still bustling with energy and kicking ass. why the hell they murdered their album that way beats me
I like Soilwork and a Disarmonia Mundi so should like SS but this band sound consistently silly – almost like a parody. The hyper extremes between the vocal styles are verging on comical and the really sugary choruses do not make for a manly sound methinks.
They’re awesome. I’m excited to see how they do with two vocalists instead of one.
Well, didn’t take long for the genre trolls to show up.
SS kicks ass. An album doesn’t have to sound like low-quality cassette bullshit for it to be “metal” – the fucktard emofags did that shit for a while, and it didn’t make sense there, either. Shitty production is just shitty production – faux low-quality doesn’t make a song something it inherently isn’t, nor does high-quality mean something isn’t “metal”. When I want to listen to something that blends at the edges, I’ll listen to the band’s live shit. And to the people complaining about the shift between the growls and the clean vocals – guess you all don’t like Opeth, either.
Fucking asinine. “Dude, your Corvette isn’t Corvette enough because it’s blue instead of bright yellow!” It’s still a Corvette, douche.
Agree 100% – Scar Symmetry kicks major ass. I wonder how the double singer setup will work out.
I am far from a genre troll, and wasn’t saying that SS isn’t tr00 metal or anything.
Honestly, it’s just not very good. The switching between harder vocals and the clean singing is jarring. And just kind of shitty.
After Metalsucks pumped up the new record, I checked it out, and was sadly disappointed. I tend to like a lot of what MS recommends, but this is just shit.
I completely agree with DemonicLemming and fantasyh. Just because they have a production value that most heavier bands lack doesn’t mean they aren’t metal. For those of you who are actually willing to accept the fact that this band kicks ass check out “morphogenesis”. Great song.
The clean vocals evoke “Bailamos” by Enrique Inglesias…and strangely enough I don’t hate it. Te quiero amor mio!
Scar Symmetry kicks ass! God forbid that a guy with a good singing voice actually uses it.
I love SS. They got some really good hooks and pretty fuckin’ insane solos too.
@Vinnie: So if I say I like this song, will you immediately do a 180? Because I do.
Soilwork do this style a lot better. The vocal shifts are a bit too excessive for the musical backdrop and the singer sounds a little too melodramatic when going clean, especially at the end. Guess I’m a ree-ree, whatever that is.
scar symmetry kick ass. Plain and Simple
I feel stupid for not knowing there was a video for this song =|
I like SS, but I’m the first to admit that they’re the poppiest melodeath (and I guess by extension death as well) can get. They’re my guilty pleasure, a band I listen to just to have fun.
While there is nothing “wrong” with this, I’d like it a lot more if the singer’s clean voice had a little more personality. The song is technically proficient, but isn’t doing anything I didn’t hear Soilwork do better in 2002.
I give it a huge “meh”.
SS are awesome. Or at least, were. Dunno how the new vocalists will fare, the fact that there’s 2 of them already makes them less awesome.
Compared to Soilwork, SS are musically much more interesting and technical, and the vocals are more impressive too. And I fucking love Soilwork…
This is far from their best song though.
Soilwork blows. Scar Symmetry rocks.
Metal by numbers; this is just formulaic loud/soft bullshit with no real sense of why the vocals are screamed or sung in the first place. I have nothing against singing or screaming and think they both have a place in metal vocals, but they just need a more natural feel to when it’s melodic and when it’s… not. some pretty cool riffs though
this song is fuckin
Scar Symmetry Kicks alot of ass !
Its a shame Christian left the band though, but I’m dying to check out some stuff for them with their new vocalists, if they had a problem with alternating vocals before, I dont think they’ll have it now.
I guess im a “re re” as you put it, cause this band fuckin blows. generic as fuck.
Am I the only one who noticed that his singing voice sounded alot like Weird Al Yankovic?
I’m not much of a fan of the formulaic growl the verse, sing cleanly the chorus for simply the sake of following a pattern. I do like mixing the vocals, and quite a few bands do it quite well, even bands with multiple singers but this isn’t one of them. This is simply too generic and as some mentioned, without any apparent purpose in the song besides alternating the two. I do like the fact that the song sounds well produced tho, never really understood why some people find well produced stuff ‘not true metal’ but whatever…
By golly, I sure am glad this band is being trashed based on one of their worst songs!
also: te he he soilwork
TJ – not really calling you out as a troll, it just really annoys me when someone says, “This band is what’s wrong with the ____ genre.” It’s a bullshit response, basically, because absolutely no reasoning as to why the band is evidently bad is given. If someone doesn’t like the band, fine, but it comes off as a lot less troll when they actually give the reasons why they don’t like the band. Plus, I abhor genres in music, especially in metal, since so many bands blend so many sounds. It’s all really subjective.
I think of Scar Symmetry as a progressive Opeth. *shrug* I’m sure people will try to rake me over the coals for it, but that’s what it makes me think of. The hard vocals aren’t the typical “Brie brie urr urr reee reee” bullshit, which is a nice switch from most of the popular “Can’t actually understand the lyrics but motherfuck does he sound like a cat stuck in a wood chipper!” (which never really made sense to me in the first place….wtf is the point of “lyrics” when it’s nothing more than a 4 minute stretch of someone having a really wet burp while trying to shit the Titantic?), and the clean vocals fit the overall theme of the albums.
Yeah, I’m going to have to give you some shit for calling them a progressive Opeth. While Opeth has apparently hit a rut and now seem to follow a simply pattern these days, nothing I’ve heard from this group is better than what Opeth has already done.
I do have to give kudos to the line about the wet burp and shitting the titanic, gave me a good laugh for the day.
I was just comparing basic styles, as far as the abrupt vocal shifts, extended instrument sections, etc. I don’t think they’re the prog analog of Opeth at all.
I don’t know what band you noobs are listening to but Christian is an incredible vocalist and I have seen him do it live just as Opeth does. Open your fuckin’ ears and listen to one of their albums all the way through instead of judging a band by one song. The Illusionist is not a good song to judge them by,it’s like making an opinion of Opeth by a song like Burden, there’s a lot more to them then what is offered in one short song.
SS kicks ass but this blog post is completely outta left field and makes no sense to me. matter of fact this whole website is pretty fucking lame!
Guys,
Scar Symmetry is awesome, the solo’s are amazing a very heavily influenced jazz guitarist behind them and he’s amazing! They are a great band live too! Though I haven’t seen them I have only herd good about them as well as there stuff on youtube.
You should look into the history behind them, the main song writer (Jonas) has a few older bands he used to be in that are much more grungy death (centinex, carnal forge etc) and the lead guitarist and drummer are from Altered Aeons (which might be more up most metal heads area) and also check out singers new band Miseration which rebinds me of vital remains.
But to all you people bagging it out for not being pure metal your all idiots and need to get out of your shelter musical tastes and explore the world, why cut off some music because of its style?!
This band is about experimentation and fun, there is so much musical composition behind this music its amazing, so many blends of styles! It mixes everything from death metal to pop, and its done extremely well!
So stop bagging it out because you come across as those forum flamers that have no life outside a computer screen; since they are so small in the real world they try to come across stronger and bigger than they are.
To all you people, go kick the bullies that make you cry at school in the balls and take it like a man and leave the music appreciation to much more qualified people like myself!
:) Cheers
I lol in the first two comments.
Everything wrong with melodeath? LMAO
I think melodeath is one of the most boring genres of metal, only a few bands are worth listen and one of them is SS.
Besides, this is their worst song…. just imagine that D=
You know what? That’s simply rather silly… You call yourselves lovers of metal? Scar Symmetry is, and though it’s lighter than most screamo/deathcore you hear these days, it’s so melodic and good that it’s a shame to hear anyone throw negative shit after them.
Also, I am just hearing “singer this”, “singer that” and “oooh, so nice text. I have absolutely no idea what it means, but it is good” or “wtf? so horrible text. I know a lot about quantum physics and stuff, and these guys suck ass”. WHERE IS THE METAL? WHERE IS THE “Wow, nice drums”, “awesome guitar riffs. Really catchy” or “man, this is amazingly balanced. No mistakes whatsoever” and stuff. Those of you who can listen to this band, and not find ONE song that is not going to be your favorite song for a month or a year, are simply not open for metal. This IS melodic death metal. Maybe even more than Soilwork (seriously, no offense. I love Soilwork).
