SHARON OSBOURNE SAYS SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE!

Friday, March 27th, 2009 at 1:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

Generally speaking, all evidence suggests that Sharon Osbourne is a real bitch. This is not news. So when I saw the headline SHARON OSBOURNE Goes Off On Reporter on Blabbermouth, I kind of naturally assumed that some reporter had asked Sharon an honest question that had in some way suggested something insulting, and Sharon, not being the kind of person who likes it when someone speaks truth to power, flipped her shit.

Turns out that’s not really what happened at all; in fact, it would seem that Sharon is, for once, the good guy in this particular fracas.

See, as you probably know, the Osbourne family is hosting a terrible new show on Fox, Osbournes Reloaded. And apparently some reporter asked Sharon if she thought the show might attract some controversy, given that it’s supposed to be a family-friendly show, and pretty much every Osbourne has had a drug and/or booze addiction at some point.

And then Sharon lost it:

“That must be the most ridiculous question I have ever been asked in my entire career,” Sharon spewed. “I’m really angry. Do you know how many people in this country alone suffer from addiction?

“This is a terrible epidemic that covers every race,” she continued. “It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, black or white. It’s an epidemic of drugs and alcohol in this country. OK? And all my family are examples of being truthful about their condition and working through it and trying to better themselves as human beings.”

She continued, “You know that we have been so open about our lives. My husband has struggled with addiction his entire life. And my son has been clean and sober for six years and lives a very, very strict AA lifestyle. And, so if anything he is a beacon of hope to any young person in this country who is struggling with addiction. So when you talk about family, we are family and we are a real family. I’ve taken real offense, because you know why? We’re real people. And probably half of the people watching our show, they have someone in their family who has a problem with alcohol and drugs.”

And you know what? Sharon is actually right. I mean, I don’t know if she’s being honest about Jack staying sober for six years – legal reasons prevent me from naming names, but I know a LOT of your favorite metal stars who claim to have sobered up are completely full of shit – but her general point is actually correct. Addiction is a health issue, regardless of what certain parties might have you believe,

Plus, as she says, most people who watch the show probably have struggled, or know someone who has a struggled, with addiction. I mean, you’d have to be fucked up to enjoy this…

…right?

Addiction to any type of substance is not a laughing matter, whether it’s a narcotic or porn, it can have detrimental effects on a person’s ability to relate logic and reason in everyday life. Good for Sharon, if she was actually sincere.

  2. DemonicLemming says:

So the reporter asks a relevant question – it really is, especially given previous shows with the Osbournes- and Sharon makes some sort of disjointed rant that really has nothing to do with the question asked?

Yes, addictions can be bad. One just needs to look at Ozzy to see that. The little fit she had when asked a pertinent question – a drug-addled and -addicted family being shown on a “family friendly reality show” possibly being the center of controversy – was pretty much asinine, though. The guy didn’t belittle or make fun of people with addiction problems.

  3. Revrant says:

Surprisingly I too have to side with Sharon, honestly, fuck the reporter if he feels everyone hosting a major network show should be clean, well-scrubbed individuals. The strange, eccentric, formerly addicted Osbournes’ variety show is allowed to suck just as badly as any variety show, and minus any controversy as to whether it’s “acceptable” for them to be at the center of it.

Side note, Ozzy has to be the funniest interview barring Jeff Goldblum, he was on the usually dull Jimmy Kimmel, crazy interview.

  4. Fuck you says:

    seriously, fuck you

    this was a complete overreaction.

    addictions are bullshit.

    sincerely,

    fuck

    you

Who gives a fuck about Sharon Osbourne and her degenerate offspring?

  8. Sammy says:

The reporter asked if the show would attract controversy, not whether they should be the family to host a family-friendly show. She reacted to something reporter did not even ask. So yes, it was an overreaction.

  9. Taephit says:

When you titled this article “SHARON OSBOURNE SAYS SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE!” I had assumed she was going to admit that Jack should be murdered to make the world a better place.

    Ah well…

  10. Total BS from Sharon. She herself enabled Ozzy’s drug habit back in the 80s.

  11. Revrant says:

    Uhm, no Sammy.

“asked Sharon if she thought the show might attract some controversy, given that it’s supposed to be a family-friendly show, and pretty much every Osbourne has had a drug and/or booze addiction at some point.”

    Again

“controversy, supposed to be a family-friendly, every Osbourne has had a drug and/or booze addiction”

So no, bullshit, the reporter asked a pretty shitty question, you’re insinuating he just asked “will it be controversial?” but what he asked was would it be controversial for THEM to be hosting a “family-friendly” show given they have a history with drugs and addiction, and that is bullshit.

  12. Sammy says:

@Revrant: I still respectfully disagree. The first thought on the mind of probably 85% of everyone who’s seen the advert for this show is, “What? The Osbornes on a variety show?” And why would people be asking that? Because it’s the Osbornes on a variety show. That market has been historically captured by the Donny & Marie types. The very crux of the question is the first part “will it attract controversy”. Yes, he or she asked it with a qualifier, but he/she did not make a disparaging statement regarding addiction. I’m not saying it was a good question; just not bad enough to warrant a bitchy rave-out.

  13. cougar party says:

You think thats an overreaction? Throwing eggs at Iron Maiden after you invite them to play on your tour is an overreaction. FUCK SHARON! CUNT WHORE…….but she is right. The reporter asked a dumb question.

  14. Revrant says:

@Sammy: I disagree entirely with your inferring it wasn’t a disparaging statement, but he was insinuating the very fact that they aren’t perfectly bland ho-hum individuals, that this would somehow draw “controversy”, why?

They can’t be family friendly? What the fuck is this? Leave it to Beaver? Family friendly is The Simpsons and Family Guy these days, and I somehow doubt they’ll be anymore offensive than that, so it’s a qualifier that I find disparaging in it’s assumption.

  15. Sammy says:

@Revrant: There are a lot of worthy issues we could argue about, but really, I doubt this is one to get that heated over, no matter what we think of the reporter or Sharon. So it’s a dumb question. So what? You’re showing a little too much passion for this one. Me? I really thought this whole post was an innocuous, slow-news-day kind of thing.

  16. Revrant says:

I’m not heated in the least.

This is an attitude I find offensive from this reporter, it’s something that’s represented quite a lot in American society, so I definitely do feel passionately about it.

  17. DemonicLemming says:

Rev – do we know if the reported actually said, “given that it’s supposed to be a family-friendly show, and pretty much every Osbourne has had a drug and/or booze addiction at some point”? Given the wording, I assumed that was something tossed in by the editor in order to clarify why the question would have been asked, not the actual words of the reporter.

  18. T says:

omg, you two need to get a room and hug it out…

  19. dthrasher says:

    so gay

  20. Revrant says:

We do not, I did not assume it was tossed in, I’m wondering what the actual wording was now.

  21. TMR says:

    @DemonicLemming:

    I’m totally with you dude,

I think she went way over her head. Even if the reporter did ask the question in a matter that they would coz controversy due to their drugness past, that shouldn’t be an offensive question, ozzy and her did some stupid shit, if am not mistaken (throwing eggs at a respectable band for the least of examples) and a question such as this one shouldn’t coz her to flip out like a crazy old hag … there are so many people that where a bit stunned about the osbournes having a variety show (which is one of the gayest ideas since their reality show) so asking such a question shouldn’t come as a surprise … wasnt being irresponsibly stupid one of their popular gimmicks ?

  22. Revrant says:

(throwing eggs at a bunch of fucking assholes who antagonized them for the entire tour for the least of examples)*

    Fixed it for you.

  23. Logic says:

The reaction was way out of line it is perfectly acceptable to ask a question regarding the offensiveness of a family who hid thier addiction through most of thier television career. Thier entire run on MTV was fueled by the children on drugs and Ozzy on an overload of prescribed medication. As I myelf am in recovery i can agree that showing this aspect could be beneficial to many, but you need to understand the drug fueled oversexed tweens of today. The message being put out is do drugs until you are somebody (as we all know good music lives in heroin) then you can kick it, party it up and say good bye. Do I reside on either side of the issue, no, but i think there is a reasonable argueement for or against them, it was completely in line for the question to be asked. Ozzy’s past is his past, he was that person, people can change and it’s great that they do but, if i rape a girl 30 years later can i hang out with your daughter, NO! So why is family entertainment (which would imply rolemodel) ok for your children if the host, bit the heads off of animals publicly, urninated on a national monument, shall i continue? Children know how google works, so if a controversial family (not just drugs) is the topic of the day they will know all about the person. So fuck Sharon Ozbourne and her shit don’t stink attitude, if you want to keep whoring out to the media you need to accept they will ask questions that aren’t the nicest, but if they are relevent come down off your cunt cloud and give an answer not a hissy fit, thats exactly why your dumb ass is seen as controversial in the first place.

  24. fucknut says:

    Chill out people.have a drink.(Or ten.)

  25. Demogorgon says:

Sharon once call all New Zealanders (like myself) sheep shaggers and the whole Iron Maiden saga is totaly unforgivable so she can go and fuck herself for all I care.

  26. chauncey chompers says:

I’m still going to side with fuck Sharon Osborne on this.

  27. Revrant says:

Logic: I disagree, the way the question was asked, assuming it was asked as written above and indeed without any kind of tact, made the implication it isn’t okay to host a family oriented variety show if you aren’t some goody two shoes self-righteous douchebag.

I don’t want to see some fucking cardboard cutout of a person faking enjoyment with cheesy monologues and good clean teasing, I don’t necessarily want to see Ozzy throwing fries at people and a bald guy kissing some old gray haired hag(zing Rob Halford’s love life), but given the option between the two I’d pick the latter.

That the interviewer implies that would somehow be “unacceptable” to the viewing public and create controversy that real people would be allowed to host the show instead of adult Jonas Brothers(AKA Hanson), is in itself offensive.

Also, they in no way glorified their addiction related behavior, the show in fact documented the consequences and disappointment shared by family and friends when their behavior was unveiled. Furthermore the only medication Ozzy was on(and will be for the rest of his headbanging days) is for his Parkin Syndrome, the symptoms of which are very similar to Parkinson’s disease, and was the cause of his sometimes violent shaking/tremors before, during, and after the show’s run.

“and the whole Iron Maiden saga is totaly understandable because they are motherfucking douchebag cuntholes, but she can still go and fuck herself for all I care.”

    Fixed the sentiment for you.

  28. Revrant says:

Funny too, numerous affiliates refused to show the program, not having seen it at all, on the very basis of this question, “non-normies” aren’t allowed to host suckass variety hours.

They need their vanilla singers and dull blondes to do that hosting.
