HOLY CRAP, WAS I RIGHT ABOUT THE SLAYER/MEGADETH TOUR?

Last week Dave Mustaine made some typically coy statement about touring with a band and squashing a “potential feud,” and using a mixture of common sense and sheer stupidity, I predicted that the band in question was Slayer.

And now Metal Underground says I’m right:

“Two of thrash metal biggest names will be joining forces for a tour together later this year. The event is expected to be announced officially next month along with details regarding support etc. Tour dates will be revealed shortly. By the Fall, both bands are expected to have released their new studio albums which are due to be released this summer.”

I have no confirmation of this news and haven’t seen it reported anywhere else, but I don’t mind admitting that I really, really hope it’s true. I don’t see how self-respecting metalhead could ever pass up the opportunity to see a Megadeth/Slayer co-headlining tour.

Thanks to MetalSucks Maniac Ryan Wineman for bringing the Metal Underground piece to my attention.

  9. Joe says:

Dave Mustaine sure talks up this Chris Broderick guy a lot, but will he be able to hang knowing that Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King will be on that same stage?!

    • ozzyzak says:

Yeah, I don’t know if he’ll be able to play with the almighty Kerry King. Give me a break.

    • Tim says:

I’m sorry, but, fail. Chris Broderick could probably play both of their parts on any of their songs at the same time.

      • Joe says:

You message board dumbasses have no idea how to detect sarcasm. And your teenage one word dismissals look even more retarded because of it. REALLY? This guy is a better lead guitar player than both of the Slayer guys? Shit, I might have to look into him more.

        • julian says:

In all seriousness its true. Broderick is really good. I don’t know whether he plays rhythms quite like King and Hanneman, but he is a better lead player.

This biggest deal for me is that Dave actually lets him play his seven string on stage. That shows some HUGE trust from Mustaine. He’s usually a lot more controlling. For instance, no Megadeth bass player has ever used his fingers, because Dave likes it better with a pick.

  20. Mike says:

Me wonders who the opening act will be? Exodus? Evile? Both would be pretty cool to see. Even Anthrax would be pretty cool.

  22. Johnny says:

    METALLIDETH!!!!WOOO

psh I hope its Metallica/Megadeth now THAT would be a tour

Megadeth shits on Slayer too much for them to tour together again :P

  23. DannE says:

    MEGASLAAAAAYYYEERR!

  24. Anthony says:

I’ll go if Megadeth is headlining.

Hell, even if Megadeth isn’t headlining, I can always leave before Slayer. Though that may be a waste of what i’m assuming will be a $50-$60 ticket. Unless the opening band(s) kick ass.

  25. Vikingfromhell890 says:

Could this actully be rumors of Gigantour? Either way, bad fucking ass!

  26. JVSTIN says:

Slegadethrax? Wouldnt that just be Thrash of The Titans II?

  27. julian says:

This is pretty outrageous. I hope I can afford the tickets.

  28. Shep says:

    I’m there

  29. ferris says:

Throw Anthrax and Hirax on the tour, and it”ll be thrasherific!

  30. gearsofrock says:

I’m ready…with or without the ‘thrax, preferably with. I hope this can be real news very soon.

  31. SouthFL Infidel says:

    a few thoughts:

-I really, really hope they make it to South FL.

-Steve, I feel the same way about Slayer. Of course they’re bad-ass and “never sold out”, but I don’t see the huge appeal…of course I haven’t heard all their stuff, but what I have heard isn’t as good as Megadeth, IMO. Still, I would like to see them live and give ‘em a shot, I’m sure they’re brutal (was going to see them with Hatebreed a few years ago but had a monster-flu).

-With regards to the earlier post about Megadeth’s crappier albums being more overlooked than Metallica’s, I think that has a lot to do with Metallica’s crappy albums being shoved down our throats. I don’t recall seeing many of Megadeth’s crappy-era songs on MTV in the middle of the day, and I also don’t remember mainstream rock radio playing any of those songs…but they played the hell out of Metallica’s pap.

-I can only assume that these two bands sharing a stage will inspire both to go balls-out every night. I think everybody will be getting their money’s worth. I think overall Dave Mustaine is a metal-genius and his body of work is better than Slayer’s, but I can only base that on recorded material and am anxious to see who is better live.

-if anybody is too cynical to get excited about this, turn in your metalhead badge, you don’t deserve it.

  32. elvin says:

    Holy cow.

Just gave me Machine Head opening and i can suicide me happy.

  33. that dude says:

anthrax (supposedly) with a new album this year also… could this be clash of the titans II after 18 years? that’d be goddamn incredible.

suicidal/alice in chains could even open up like back in the day. I’d pay $$$ to see it!!

  34. Mark G. says:

Yeah I always thought Slayer were overrated. I agree Megadeth have shitty albums (basically Crpytic Writings, System Has Failed, and all albums in between), but there’s even 2 or 3 songs on their shitty albums I like.

I would still see this show though, I never liked Slayer but I’m sure they put on a good show.

  35. Noel says:

Im living in hell. Im 17 and I love helmet. Strap it on , in the meantime and betty are my golden prizes. No one I know or have met has heard of them or they dont like them. Im still struggling to this day to put a decent band together because no one seems to appreciate that style anymore…

…yet tons of people still care about fucking gay ass slayer..and boring megadeth and its asshole frontman….ok.

  36. Tyler says:

This better be a Megadeth/Slayer or a Megadeth/Metallica (we can dream) tour. If it’s Anthrax I’m going to be pissed.
