And now this BBC interview pretty much seems to prove it.
This is funny/sad, and worth a listen even if (or maybe especially if?) you don’t like Manson.

And I’ve heard/seen my share of Manson interviews and in this one he seems legitimately fucking destroyed.

Drugs and alcohol have always ruled his life. Mr. Reznor may recall a small, 20 year period where they ruled his as well. Manson’s autobiography has some humorous anecdotes about the comically-sized piles of cocaine he and Trent used to do.

The amount of drugs Phil does is mostly due to the physical pain he has to endure.I agree that he’s still being coherent and still sounds professionnal even though he seems like he’s had one too many joints.It’s rather obvious the dude is used to being high.At some point it doesn’t affect you that much anymore.Same goes for alcohol when you’re used to drinking a lot.I gotta say it though,Phil fucking owns,fuck the haters who truly believe he’d still be in a childish sort of fight with Dime if he was alive.Pretty sure things would be sorted out and they could become friends again,since apparently Phil has become a much better person overall.
As for this Manson interview,something leads me to believe that he was doing this on purpose.I don’t think it is a publicity stunt though,maybe he’s just totally sick of responding to the same questions over and over again,and wants to entertain himself instead of getting bored to sleep.I’m not saying I agree with the idea though,since this interview makes him seem totally retarded in a very,very sad way,but I have trouble believing he’s actually THIS fucked up.
If I am wrong,then this interviewer caught him at a very,very bad time.In which case,I wonder why Manson would’ve accepted to respond to this interview while knowing he was too shitfaced to do it.
The guy might’ve not always been exactly clever,but I remember hearing a lot of intelligent statements in some of his past interviews.Makes it hard to believe that from one week to another he has become some kind of fish lost in his own aquarium.
don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Phil fan, but you gotta admit he sounds fucked up in most interviews he’s conducted post-pantera maybe it is past drug abuse or whatever. Frankly, I don’t really care as long as he stays healthy and keeps putting out Down/Superjoint albums.
Manson on the other hand, seems to be really, really, high in this interview and is having a difficult time even following the conversation. There’s at least a couple times when he stops and forgets what he’s talking about and seems noticably uncomfortable in his skin. I don’t think he’s trying to be edgy. I think he’s really fucked up.
Not saying Phil doesn’t sound fucked up at all.All these drugs are bound to have some effect even though he doesn’t sound as weird as Manson does,and as I’ve said he still seems to keep his shit together which is a must in this business.I’m also hopeful that he’s still being careful about not overusing medication.
It could’ve been easy for Manson to pretend that he was completely lost,only to make the interviewer even more annoyed.But I’m pretty sure that we will never really know the bottom line about this.One thing’s for sure,if he wanted to get the people to talk,he fucking reached his goal.Only thing is,even his music is very weak today,so ruining it even more for himself by acting like a retarded monkey is not exactly the most professionnal move to make.
I agree with most people on the fact that it is a little too late in his career for him to try and prank people like that.At this point it’s a lack of maturity and consideration.Wether he was doing it on purpose or accepted to do an interview even though he knew he couldn’t put a complete sentence together…it’s all a HUGE lack of professionalism.Don’t get me wrong,I do have a good sense of humour,pretty sure everyone who reads MetalSucks does. :)

Wow…clearly he’s lost any sense of focus. It’s too bad really, I’ve always enjoyed his output, but the last 2 discs were flat-out BORING (something you’d think the self-proclaimed God of Fuck would want to avoid). It’s too bad really, saw them live on the Antichrist Superstar tour and it’s still one of the best rock shows I’ve seen.
I’ve heard everyone I know sound this dumb at least once. Yes, he’s clearly hopped up on goofballs during the interivew, but it’s not as if he’s like this 24/7. He couldn’t function if he were.

Has anyone considered that manson isn’t that stoned in this interview? Seems to me that he just isn’t in the mood to be interviewed and is just fucking with the interviewer. He could be high as a kite, but then again that may not be the case.

According to another BBC presenter last week on Radio 1’s Rock Show, he came in to record an acoustic set for them and was completely and utterly drunk and kept drinking throughout. I wouldn’t like to imply that drunk may have been a code word for anything else, though this interview would seem to suggest that that could have been the case… They haven’t played said set yet either…

Wow, the comments above me make me so damn angry. Manson isn’t a gimick, he does what he does and laughs at all of the the pretty little bitches and assholes who like to pretend this world is perfect. Hell’s yeah to Manson for pointing out that everything isn’t clean and sterile. So he got fucked up a couple times, it’s not like he’s always like that. Every band has it’s time when it gets into the hollywood scene. You have that much money and nothing to spend it on, so they throw away a few years of their lives. As long as Manson keeps making music I’ll be happy. New album rocks and I can’t wait to see him on tour this summer.
This interview has really been overly scrutinized. People have gone to ridiculous extents based on this interview alone. Meanwhile, no one pays attention to all the other interviews he’s been doing. I think it’s based on fear of the idea that the Manson that always provided fodder for certain people to whine about stupid kids is a forty year old man and it doesn’t work anymore. His image always betrayed his intelligence to certain people, and that seems to have changed in his music and his appearance. Even worse, he’s lasted. The man is still making music, he still has fans, and he’s still good at it. That’s hard for people to imagine, so as soon as they get the idea that he is slipping, even when he clearly isn’t, they jump at it. That’s unfortunate, but I suppose it only fuels him and his fans.
