NEW ALBUM ART FROM BARONESS + THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 4:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

There’s all sorts of crazy shit going on behind-the-scenes here at the MetalSucks Mansion today, so I gots to makes this brief.

Baroness have named their follow-up to The Red AlbumThe Blue Record. Okay. I can get behind that. There’s still no release date, but here’s John Baizley’s cover art. Pretty sweet, me thinks:

Meanwhile, The Black Dahlia Murder’s new album, Deflorate, drops September 15 on Metal Blade. Here’s the newly unveiled cover art, albeit in really teeny weeny itty bitty size:

I’m sure that would look cool if I had a magnifying glass. Hopefully we get to see the bigger version soon.

  1. The Baroness art is awesome. Love, LOVE the Red Album. Hoping for more of the same.

  2. 36Thoughtless says:

Is the girl on the left supposed to look pregnant? Or is pregnant the new metal motif?

    • Shinaain says:

No, just sort of Rubenesque (for lack of a better word). For the time period the artwork appears to be reminiscent of, that was the ideal feminine form.

    • Business Casual says:

It seems like fertilitiy (or lack there of) might be somehow conveyed given that she’s wearing eggs / breaking eggs around her neck. Just a thought.

  3. alex says:

hahaha the new dahlia looks badass

  4. trailofsmoke says:

Hey Axl!! The release date is October 13th.

  5. redd says:

Just look at those fat fucks. Any interest I has in listening to Baroness is gone. And it was almost entirely gone after I actually listened to them for the first time.

  6. jason says:

Baizley’s art is never anything less than spectacular.

  7. pdf says:

New Baroness art looks great. New BDM art is the worst thing since the last In Flames album cover. Horrible. They seem to go one good, one bad, though, ’cause the cover to Unhallowed was good, the cover to Miasma sucked, the cover to Nocturnal was good, and this one sucks.

  8. Ziltoid says:

I don’t even like their genre, but The Red Album was quite surprisingly an excellent album IMO. I normally wouldn’t like the art, but knowing what The Red Album’s art was, I expected something like this, although the nude people and fish symbolism is a bit…”out there.” Still, I’m looking forward to this.

That other crappy band can just go away.

    • jackattack says:

I’m pretty much convinced that you hate fun, but I love for it anyway… marry me Zilty…

If their sound and talent progression is any indication, “The Blue Record” is going to be a beautifully flowing work of art. Hopefully they explore more darker/”bluer” tones on the album… something like a corollary to the recurring riff found on “The Red Album”… which if anyone has listened to will identify immediately.

  9. Elpants says:

I just saw Baroness on Monday night with Clutch, was nothing short of a religious experience. New art looks bad-ass, but I can’t say the same for BDM.

    • cougar party says:

I saw Baroness last night and they were absolutely amazing. I was shocked how good they sounded live. They made a lot of new fans that night.

Clutch on the other had I gotta say was kind of boring for the most part. The guitar and bass player just stood still and stared at thier hands the whole time. I was really excited to see them because I heard they we very good live. Kind of a let down.

  10. bradican says:

new baroness art AND a torche/boris split? what an awesome day

  11. Definitely looking forward to the new Baroness album…as for The Black Dahlia Murder, the art looks like Powerslave made out of Play-Doh

  12. Beereded says:

There’s way too much color and light in The Balck Dahlia Murder’s new album cover.

  13. That album cover is fucking dope.

Didn’t bother looking at Black Dahlia Murder’s shit, just like at Mayhem Fest. Zing!

  14. Damotello says:

John Baizley’s art never fails to amaze me. The cover for “Phantom Limb” is by far my favourite album art for any album, metal or otherwise.

  17. Ross says:

Wow, that new Baroness cover is beautiful.

  18. ThrashandDestroy says:

New Baroness Me thinks this is gonna be sweeet

  19. Mike Riddick says:

I had the fortune to see Tony’s Koehl’s BLACK DAHLIA art in its absolute detail as I did the layout for the “Deflorate” release. I have to say this is one of Tony’s best pieces so far. It’s highly detailed with many special nuances. The band mirrored the “Powerslave” concept intentionally as they wanted an old-school metal art approach and I think Tony captured that precisely.

  20. Harry says:

Red Album is in my top 5 all-time albums and Blue Record is easily my most anticipated 2009 release.

And holy shit is Baizley a good artist.

  21. Dillon says:

Fun fact: I saw boobs on both album artworks.

    Awesome album art btw.

  22. Dying Season says:

How can you people think this looks good? Looks lame and girly.

  23. dr j says:

Can’t express how much I love Baroness and John Baizley’s art. Will definetley buy the next CD, just like I buy anything I can find with Baizley’s art on it.

  24. MetalMatt says:

The Baroness art looks awesome. Baizley never fails to impress.
The BDM art looks really cheezy. I guess that’s the idea?

  25. groverXIII says:

John Baizley is a badass… I wonder how he feels about his art stolen for the new album by… uh… fuck, I can’t remember. It was posted on here last week or so. Every Time I Die, maybe?

  26. seagoat says:

Baizley’s art is pretty damn cool. This is an interesting cover though because one woman is sniffing a fish while the other has a ‘cock’ on her head and phallus shaped broken eggs around her neck. Anxious to hear the album though.

  27. THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER’S ARTWORK IS REALLY QUITE SUPERB, WHAT A PITY THEY ARE SUCH A BUNCH OF FUCKING GAYBOYS MUSICALLY AND IN EVERY OTHER WAY.

BARONESS ON THE OTHER HAND ARE SIMPLY FANTASTIC AND THE NEW ALBUM IS SURELY DESTINED TO SLAY BALLS. THE ALBUM ARTWORK IS CERTAINLY IMPRESSIVE BUT WHAT’S WITH ALL THE FAT CHICKS BAIZLEY LIKES TO DRAW?!!?

BAIZLEY MY GOOD MAN GET YOURSELF OVER HERE TO OXFORD AND I WILL SHOW YOU SOME REAL WOMEN. I’M TALKING REAL TONED HARD-BODY BITCHES.

  28. metalguy says:

next for baroness is the yellow cassette, followed by the green vinyl

  29. Nocomment says:

Has anybody else noticed the the cracked egg between the left chicks tits looks like a dick?
