Our friend Carlos Ramirez has posted a list at NoiseCreep of the Top 10 New School Thrash Bands.” There are some really sweet bands on this list – Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Warbringer, and Merciless Death all made the list – but I imagine many of you will be pissed by some of the exclusions (Lazarus A.D., Evile, etc.).

Check out the complete list, then come back and argue about it right here at “Fuck You” headquarters.

  1. key says:

I don’t know all of those bands, but I do know they got Waste, Warbringer, and Toxic Holocausts right. Those guys all murder. And they were right about Waste being #1, too.

  2. tom says:

Evile didn’t even make the short-list? disgraceful, but there’s a couple of bands on there i’m gonna check out now.
Also, saying that skeletonwitch’s vocals show their death metal influence? really?

These lists are all bound to be pretty much the same though, seeing as there are only 10-20 really good quality “new” thrash bands…

  3. Joshie says:

Hey, I’m just excited that Toxic Holocaust got some reconition, so no angered responses from me.

  4. Chuckles says:

Great bands. Definitely some good up and coming bands mixed in with great bands like Warbringer and Skeletonwitch. Too bad no Exmortus, Ravage, Razormaze or Bonded by blood

  5. ceth says:

That picture of Violator just screams of trying to hard, I am sorry but it’s hard not to get a chuckle out of the 3 guys and their almost identical matching denim jackets with a laughable number of patches. Sorry, just found that kind of funny. I like some of this new thrash but some of the guys in the bands are trying way to hard for the throwback look.

  6. PD says:

Wtfh!? Skeletonwitch are blackened thrash, not death. Technicalities…oh well.
And everyone should check out Nocturnal…more great blackened thrash.

  7. joshkid says:

I’m glad to see Mantic Ritual made the list. Those guys can fuckin’ thrash you to death!!!

  8. Jackson says:

Rumplestiltskin Grinder should of been on there as well as a lesser known crossover band called In Defence, check out this live video of them in a taco johns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5b172JK57g

    • lolwut says:

nothing metal about punk but ehhh wasnt bad i want tacos now

      • Jackson says:

they come off very punk in that video but I wold say they have strong thrash infuences for sure. On a side note apparently two managers got fired because of that night

    • Vikingfromhell890 says:

Rumplestiltskin Grinder should have been on that list. Out of the new wave of Thrash, they are amazing song writers and great players.

  9. cougar party says:

    Where is Early Man?

In other news, Toxic Halocaust is terrible live.

  10. pdf says:

Toxic Holocaust and Blood Tsunami are the only two bands I really disagree with – would have liked to see Evile and Hatchet on the list instead. (The upcoming Evile album is a big leap forward from the last one.) Violator are fantastic. Also, Gama Bomb from Ireland aren’t great, but their drummer is.

  11. Facebook User says:

Evile, Lazarus A.D., Bonded By Blood?

  12. loganarchy says:

LaZarus A.D. and Early Man should have been on the list. Most of those bands I haven’t even heard of…

    Also, what about Revocation?

    • Fuck yeah Revocation! They’ve been playing together for like 10 years though, I dunno if they qualify as neo-thrash. Lotta elements besides thrash in there too

      • loganarchy says:

Well they’ve got a bunch of death metal elements, so yeah, I doubt they’re neo-thrash. But they do kick ass. Cosmo Lee @ Invisible Oranges recommended them.

  13. MetalMatt says:

missing Early Man, Evile and Fueled By Fire

  14. alliaphagist says:

My list would include Hexen, Lich King, Mantic Ritual, Revocation, Havok, Exmortus, Early Man, Gama Bomb, and…and…and I can only think of 8 that I like.

  15. Rock Johnson says:

    Lazarus AD slays them all

  16. CarlosRamirez says:

It seems like you guys really like Evile, LaZarus A.D. and Bonded By Blood.

  17. Ziltoid says:

If neo-thrash actually mattered, I’d care. Too bad it doesn’t. These new bands do nothing but rip off the already dull thrash of the 80s. I just want hear to new Heathen album that is set to come out sometime soon. There is a good thrash band.

    • I couldn’t get into Heathen. My friends suggested them and they did nothing for me. I would much rather listen to Kreator, Exodus, or Warbringer for my daily thrash intake.

    • Ziltoid says:

Meh whatever. I’m only interested in the new Heathen album because their 2005 demo sounded really good for a bunch of older guys. Thrash is pretty much the opposite of prog, and that’s my favorite genre, so I obviously don’t care much about thrash. But Heathen’s song “Guitarmony” is quite good.

    • SP420 says:

You mention “dull thrash of the 80s” and then mention anticipation for the new Heathen album? That’s a big lol as far as I’m concerned. Heathen is NOTHING special at all.

  18. GamlaSonn says:

I for one prefer Lazarus A.D. and Legion of the Damned over every band in that list..

    • GamlaSonn says:

Ok, I admit I haven’t heard every band there.

      Violator are crazy riffers x)

    • Lazarus AD is great. It’s cool seeing Blood Tsunami on the list. They’re actually really good.

      • GamlaSonn says:

If you like Lazarus, you should check out Violator, they’re fast and groovy as fuck.

Seeing as Tsunami is fellow countrymen they get a plus in my book. About their music, I like some songs of their debut album, but somehow I didn’t get into the second one, might’ve been something with the vocals..

  19. Agmkreptile says:

    Toxic Holocaust!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. fightingmike says:

Dont really like any of those bands. Why not just listen to the bands they are ripping off? I would rather listen to Darkane!

  21. Ryd1ZZ says:

    Worship the Witch!

  22. Toxic Holocaust, Skeletonwitch, Ramming Speed, and Municipal Waste are on the list so you won’t get any complaints out of me. I’m a little surprised that Rumplestilkskin Grinder didn’t make the list though.

  23. big_metal_al says:

Where the fuck is EVILE???? They should be there at the top for sure!!

  24. seasick says:

lol, look at that guys of VIOLATOR

holy crap, go buy some new clothes, GEEKS!!

  25. MansonistGetAllTheGirls says:

Rather listen to new Artillery. This is the real shit. Neo-thrash is just a parody.

  26. I’m so pleased that they gave Ramming Speed a shoutout. Their Brainwreck album from last year is sooooo raging, and in more than just a retro thrash way — those dudes have grindcore chops too. And the drummer’s label Teenage Disco Bloodbath has some awesome stuff on it. Including…Ramming Speed’s Brainwreck album.

Check out the new Iron Age album, too. Some killer early Metallica worship on that guy.

  27. Kyle Kovich says:

    No Havok? fucking bullshit

  28. yoooo says:

where the shit id fueled by fire? and toxic holocaust does not suck live!

  29. Municipal Waste sucks live.

    • shit sandwich says:

      hahahaha

    • Masonic Wehrmacht says:

      You’re lame.

Havok should have been on this list, they harass every other band on that list besides Violator. But seriously, nobody start liking them. I need them to stay on the low. As I bump them.

  30. Slim says:

Violator rules the fuckin land….Brazillian metal rules!

  31. Tim Ledin says:

Maybe im going out on a limb… but The Absence???

  32. Aya says:

MW play hardcore thrashy riffs, which is cool.

But I kinda like Warbringer. I love the speed they put. Can’t believe this band is on my top 10 most recently played list. lol

  33. Scrambles says:

Glad to see they mentioned Cross Examination at the end.

  34. Peter says:

My personal top 10 would be:

    1. Municipal Waste
    2. Evile
    3. Warpath
    4. Hyades
    5. Warbringer
    6. SSS
    7. Bonded By Blood
    8. Mantic Ritual
    9. Gama Bomb
    10. Mastery

But there’s so many more that I like as well. FBF, Violator, Lazarus A.D., Pitiful Reign, Toxic Holocaust, Skeletonwitch, etc. Its without doubt my favourite genre in all of metal. No other genre has that real headbanging factor, and no live show is ever dull.

  35. SforShoota says:

I think its a good list, but I definitely think Nocturnal (Germany) should’ve been thrown in there. Along with Avenger of Blood, Warpath is pretty good but I don’t really like his vocals.

I think Sakrificer needs more exposure, http://www.myspace.com/sakrificer
