NEW CONVERGE COVER ART IS BAD-AXED

Ahhh, lame puns. Sometimes you’re just in the mood, y’know?

ANYWAY, the new Converge album, Axe to Fall, comes out October 17 on Epitaph. That alone might be reason enough to get excited, but various inhabitants of the MetalSucks Mansion have heard from those in the know that the album is “as good as No Heroes” and/or “better than Jane Doe.” Those are both big statements – the latter obviously being an almost impossible feat – but hopefully the peeps that made these proclamations speak the truth.

Now the cover art has been released; I think it’s a safe assumption that it’s by Jacob Bannon himself, but I don’t have official confirmation on that. In any case, I don’t know if it’s quite as iconic as the cover art for Jane Doe or No Heroes or even You Fail Me, but it’s still the sweetest album art I’ve seen by a non-grind band this year. Check it out:

So… is it October yet?

As good as No Heroes? Count me in!! (Shame on me for never hearing Jane Doe, YET)

Oh man, you have to check out Jane Doe, and You Fail Me, for that matter.

  • John

Dude. If you like no heros you have to hear jane doe.

  • Sean Pulatie

New Converge = happy Sean. Can’t fucking wait.

  • Pancho

Great. Another pair of soiled pants. Can’t wait for this.
As for the album cover thing…predictably awesome JKB (looks a hell of a lot like the No Heroes inset though). I still think the Agoraphobic and the Baroness ones are better “-core” covers, however. Heaven & Hell’s takes the “metal” prize for me.

  • Pancho

Whoa I realized I acronymed “Justin K Broadrick” on my post. I meant JB. Must be the Jesu/Godflesh kick I’ve been having the last few days.
Oh yeah, about it being better than No Heroes, etc. I’ll be happy if the quality is the same as the last two records. Let’s just hope they bring \m/ TEH METELL \m/ this time around (if the song in the teaser is indicative of the entire album’s sound then it looks as though my wish will come true).

It comes out on a Saturday?

Best non-grind band album cover? I think you forgot the Blue Record from Baroness.

Better than “Jane Doe”? Um……………..that’s a bold statement.

I don’t care much for Converge’s music but the singers is a talented and great artist.

You Fail Me is my favorite because, in my opinion, it has the most memorable and unique guitar and drum riffs. Also, it took me a long time to get past the awesomeness of the music and delve into Bannon’s lyrics, but I strongly urge everyone to read them… he’s part of a dying breed of lyricists who have something good to say.

**Question** How would you rank the following records: Jane Doe, You Fail Me, and No Heroes?
I say You Fail Me, Jane Doe, No Heroes.

Jane Doe, You Fail Me, No Heroes…. my only reservation is that You Fail Me is actually my favorite album, but Jane Doe is the best… if that makes any sense.

  • jackattack

Even uttering “better than Jane Doe” sets the bar way too high. I’m gonna love it either way, but the hype for this is gonna go through the roof and ultimately it’ll result in disappointment if it gets compared to Jane Doe prior to the release.
