Ben Koller Says New Converge Album “Could Be Our Best Album Yet, No Joke”

Looks like the “slow cooker” could be nearing completion, as Converge drummer Ben Koller commented over on Twitter that the band’s highly anticipated new material would be well worth the wait. In fact, he even went so far as to say it was “our best album yet no joke.”

We’ve known the band was at least considering working on their followup to 2017’s The Dusk In Us, but Koller’s recent comments make it sound like things have progressed a lot since we last heard anything about new Converge tunes.

“There is A LOT of new Converge material. I feel like I’m at Old Country metalcore Buffet and all the foods are RIFFS. It’s all over the place. We have crowdkilling, Fugazi, Mars Volta, Entombed, mathcore madness, slow Nate riffs where I play too fast, shitty riffs, emo riffs…This could be our best album yet no joke. We should proably ditch the shitty riffs though”

That sounds… fuckin’ awesome.

In another tweet, Koller was asked how the new music compares to No Heroes, to which the he said it was too early for that kind of assessment, though he once again talked up how impressive the new output already sounds.

“Hard to say what the finished product will be but I will say that this feels like the most evolved, natural and fully realized bunch of material we have ever written. It’s tough to try and compare it to other albums. No Heroes feels like another lifetime at this point.”

Man, if it all pans out to even a portion of what Koller’s describing new Converge music as, it’s going to kick so much ass. Its release can’t come soon enough.
