NO JOE!

I haven’t taken a vacation since the summer of ’06. You think snarky metal blogs write themselves? Fuck no. I have something known as “work ethic.” I’m here, making fun of people I mostly don’t even know, for you. So that you’ll have something to do when you should be working. I don’t take no fuckin’ vacations.

But not Joe Duplantier. The inhumanly chill Gojira front man says that France’s leading metallic export will take a six month break in 2010. SIX FUCKING MONTHS. Lazy motherfucker.

Oh well. At least I know I get to see the band live at least one more time before they go on hiatus.

Here’s “Love” from Terra Incognita.

NNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Proof positive THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THIS WORLD!!!

But seriously, I say do what you gotta do. He did mention somewhere that he wished he could take some time to volunteer for an environmental organization (look out, Sea Shepherd!!!) and maybe spend some time in the U.S. improving his English. Maybe the next Gojira album will be that much more amazing for the break.

And thank you for all the effort you put into helping me skiv-off from work. No, really. Thank you.

  • Toxteth O’Grady

There’s that French work ethic. I hope he enjoys his chateau du laisse, cheese, and health care.

    • Shinaain

And any Frenchperson who just read your comment is saying, “Don’t hate, bro. You know you want some of this.”

  • Mike

Please god someone please rerelease terra incognita

    • Shinaain

They are. I can’t access the information from work because it’s on Facebook, but Joe left a status message on his profile saying they would be re-releasing *Terra Incognita* and *From Mars to Sirius* as special editions in August and September. He didn’t specify whether those would be international releases or French-licensed releases, though, and I haven’t been able to find out any more information on my own.

Anyone more resourceful than myself who has all the information, please share.

      • Shinaain

Okay, here it is: (autobot translation) “Terra Incognita will be re-edited in a limited with 3 titles bonus on 24 August edition. So From Mars To SIRIUS in a CD with patches on September 21 (a vinyl version is also expected).”

And I am now officially sick of reading my own typing. Later.

  • RomuluXX

Well, at least I’ll get to see ‘em before this

  • Beereded

I’m just wondering if the title of this article is from the Mushroomhead black metal/ hidden track thing. And am glad that this is just a “break” and not a “break-up.”

    • groverXIII

Heh… that’s the best thing Mushroomhead has ever done.

/”I’m dark and evil, Joe! I’ve stabbed motherfuckers!”

  • fuck you

Its not French, its the work ethic of Tool.

  • Wrecking Balls

Can’t wait to see them in Brooklyn next month!

  • Sandy n Papo

the guy on the video, also appears on the great one made for “To Sirius”, I wonder who is that guy, btw, both videos are very similar, probably form the same director

    • Shinaain

I can’t remember the guy’s name or his connection to the band, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that he also works for them. Don’t take me for my word on that. On *The Link Alive” DVD, there’s a bunch of hidden cuts of he and Mario goofing off, spoofing B-grade kung fu movies, as the characters “Tangui & Tchang.”

Also, it IS the same director: Joe and Mario’s cousin, Alain Duplantier. Their sister, Gabrielle, has always been their official photographer and their cousin, Claire Theody (sp?), was the actress in the “Vacuity” video.

      • Sandy n Papo

        big fan ah?

        • Shinaain

          *sheepish* Shut up! lol

I think a better title would have been “Say It Ain’t So, Joe”

    Anyways, FUCK.

  • http://www.formulafiction.com Dr Tizzle

ah well, they toured their asses off. they deserved it

  • Dunk

Hopefully that means Joe will be touring with Cavalera Conspiracy soon, and I’ll get another chance to see them…

I just read a great article about Pig Destroyer – it’s definitely a good thing Gojira are taking time off. The article basically said bands break up and shit cause they’re doing the band too much and start to dislike being with the band. Something like that. I bet they come back even better than before (is that possible?)

    • Shinaain

Yes, it is. And bless them, as much as I pine for them and wait impatiently for whatever they’re going to throw down next, they probably do need the break. I’m frankly not interested in hearing an entire album about what the world looks like passing by a tour bus window or from the inside of dark nightclubs (not by Gojira or anyone else), and the pace they’ve set for the last few years might have set them up for that if they were to go into writing and rehearsals for the next record tomorrow. In that event, I do hope they take time out to live their lives again.

And yes, I’m a goofed-up fan girl for these guys. Leave me alone.
