STILL INFECTED BY CHIMAIRA

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 at 10:34am by Axl Rosenberg

I listened to The Infection over the weekend for the first time in a little while. Guess what? Still kills. I can’t wait to see some of this shit played live.

Here’s a not-so-great quality bootleg of the band playing the first cut off the album, “The Venom Inside.” As Vince says, “This song just makes me happy.” What a killer way to open the show. Sounds like the crowd is almost as loud as Mark Hunter.

Friendly reminder: Chimaira are on tour right now with Hatebreed, Dying Fetus, Toxic Holocaust and Winds of Plague. Then they head to Europe in September with Unearth, Throwdown, and our friends in Daath. You can get all the tour dates here.

This is great and all, but THERE’S A NEW CONVERGE SONG STREAMING RIGHT NOW!

  2. Ziltoid says:

This band has always been shit, but this new compact turd is one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. Offensive to all 5 senses. Yep, it’s just that bad.

    • Canvas Of Flesh says:

I believe this band has found an extra 2 senses to be offensive to.

Kill yourself. Actually do it immediately. Your comments are shit and no one gives a fuck what you have to say. Everytime I read an article I see your shitty negative comments about every single band. Do you even listen to metal? Your prob one of the dudes front row at a Brittany Spears concert holding your boyfriends hand. I will take a page from Chimaira’s book by saying…. “NOBODY CARES IF YOU DIE.. WORTHLESS…YOU ARE FUCKING WORTHLESS!!!!!!”

      • Canvas Of Flesh says:

Uh-oh. Someone’s mad at his daddy and needs to vent his teenage angst on the interwebs.

      • Dave says:

All the people who listen to metal that isn’t shitty like Chimaira do agree with most of his posts. You just see 30 people replying angrily because they are offended that someone made fun of their shitty favorite band.

I love Chimaira, but I honestly don’t understand why “The Infection” is so hyped. I suppose it’s merely a matter of personal taste; I like their mid-tempo, intensely groove-oriented material as much as the next guy, it’s just that the new album is missing the fast-paced, crazy tracks of old (see: “Power Trip”, “Pure Hatred”, “Save Ourselves”, “Resurrection”, etc.). They should have thrown at least a couple of these types of tracks in for some variety; I get too bored with mid-tempo from start to finish.

Eh, maybe I’ll go back and give this album another spin…

I actually totally agree with you. It doesn’t have the same things that make the other albums listenable. I felt like this one was a little too soft actually.

dudes voice NEVER changes. it’s awful. even his cadence seems to be the same.

I’ve tried to like these guys every time they release a new album, and every time, I can’t find anything to like. For once, I’m with Ziltoid… these guys are fucking boring. I listened to Infection twice and don’t remember a single thing about it. It’s as though two hours of my life (approximately) just disappeared entirely.

  6. jason says:

LOLZ @ Chimaira. Is it true that Chubby Fresh on Integrity and One Life Crew fame played drums for them at one time?

  7. DemonicLemming says:

Meh. I liked their old stuff. The new stuff seems too much an effort to be trendy. I listened to The Infection once, haven’t played it since. Whatever the name of the album that came before it has maybe two good songs. Conversely, I love Impossibility of Reason and Pass Out of Existence.

  8. The Goat says:

Boy di I hate this band! I’m glad they’re not on this tour anymore. I’ll Just see Dying Fetus and Toxic Holocaust and leve before Winds of Anus.

  9. DecrystallizingReason says:

This album is truly infectious…The first time I listened through it I thought it was mediocre, but it just kept growing on me every time I listened to it. I think all the mid-tempo stuff just takes a while to sink in…there is a LOT more going on on this album than you’ll pick up with one listen. Fucking awesome band.

I bought this CD on a whim and have really enjoyed it–one of my favorite metal releases of the year. They’re not breaking any new ground, but it’s good metal nonetheless.
