METALSUCKS PRESENTS THE HEATHENFEST TOUR, FEAT. ELUVEITIE, BELPHEGOR, ALESTORM, KIVIMETSAN DRUIDI, AND VREID

heathe~1(2)The headline says it all; isn’t that lineup awesome? It’s kind of like Paganfest except slightly less dorky / more evil (nothing against Paganfest — we love that tour too). We were bummed Eluveitie canceled this year’s Paganfest II appearance so we’re excited to see them again, and we’re all for a tour that includes blackened death metallers Belphegor and the better-of-the-two pirate metal bands, Alestorm. Kivimetsan Druidi and Vreid are mostly new to me but they seem like they’ll fit right in on this tour.

Honestly, this year’s Paganfest was a bit underwhelming so perhaps this is a chance for redemption. Korpiklaani shouldn’t have been headliners, and while the lineup was solid it wasn’t strong enough to bring out all the crazy pagan-metal partiers: I was the only douchebag in the entire place wearing a viking helmet, for realz. Seeing as Heathenfest kicks off in the dark, dim early days of November, maybe it’ll provide a good excuse for sun-deprived metalheads to go and get rowdy with some frosty brews and pagan metal. Psyched!

Man I would go to this if it wasn’t in Cleveland. I fucking hate Peabody’s and I’m sick of driving almost 4 hours to shows. I had fun at Paganfest, even though Korpiklanni kind of blew that night. Moonsorrow were amazing, and I still prefer Swashbuckle over Alestorm for some reason (beyond even my understanding).

    • Canvas Of Flesh says:

Tell me about it. Why couldn’t they have in it Cincy or something. I hate driving to that shithole Cleveland. Although, Cincy is still a shithole too.

I think the only band I would be really excited about would be Vreid or Eluveitie. Vreid is fucking awesome. Belphegor isn’t bad though. It’s still not worth a 3 or 4 hour drive.

      • Metal Fuckin' Dave says:

I only willingly do it for Maiden anymore. I’m fairly close to Dayton…about 20 minutes north…so Cinci or Columbus are easily do-able. But Cleveland is a long, boring, traffic ridden drive.

    you WILL like vreid!

  3. Jason says:

Wonder how many shows will happen until A) Half of the touring roster drops off the bill or B) the entire tour is scrapped. My guess is 40%.

  4. Belphegor, Vreid, and my namesake all kick ass. Alestorm’s not bad either. Never heard Kivimetsan Druidi though.

    • Jacob Martin says:

Hell yeah your namesake kicks ass. I’m not going to lie, I’m hitting this show up for them. I’ll check out the other bands, if I like them, great, but I’m going no matter what for Eluveitie.

      • Absolutely. Eluveitie deserves to be the headliner. Best and most original of all the Folk metal bands out there.

I hope I can make it, I’m from Cleveland but I live in Athens, Ohio (hometown of Skeletonwitch) for college now. Hopefully I can find some other buddies who’ll want to drive 4 hours to Cleveland to see them.

  5. Dysenteric says:

Is it me, or does Belphegor look really out of place on that bill? I’m not just talking logo-wise, either…

    • The rest of the bands do seem a little folksy in comparison, but I’m not gonna complain cuz I love them all

    • plumber says:

Its funny you say that because I saw this show posted on a Vancouver metal message board and the line-up was the same except with Tyr instead of Belphegor. I guess someone got the wrong info…

  6. Ziltoid says:

What an original name for a tour…

Still, I think these folk-themed “pagan/heathen” tours are a bit stupid. At least Alestorm is fun live (even though I hate their music, they put on a good enough show). Good to see Vreid on this, though. Great new album.

  7. Bill says:

EVERY single folk metal tour skips Pittsburgh. I don’t care if there isn’t a huge market for it here, but it’s annoying as fuck to have to go to Cleveland for these shows when Peabody’s isn’t even that good of a venue. I’m still holding out hope for Ensiferum, though they’ll rip my heart out too.

  8. Kim says:

Sounds like a good lineup. I’ll be glad I don’t have to wait for Paganfest 2010.

  9. Holy awesome. You can bet Northern Sword will be opening this.

  10. Guy that knows way too many dead baby jokes says:

Vreid are amazing…. I seem to recall a review on their last album from this website…

  11. Travis Coy says:

My girlfriend literally had an orgasm when they announced this. I am little more than indifferent about it.

it’s times like these that make me glad to live in New England…Can’t wait till Nov. 3rd FUCK YEAH!!!

  14. helgaleena says:

KIVIMETSAN DRUIDI is from Finland and Leeni-Maria sings!
