MORE ON THE RETURN OF BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD

I know that this is only peripherally related to metal, but the response to that new Beavis & Butt-Head short the other day was so overwhelmingly positive that I thought you’d all like to know about this.
Cinema Blend recently conducted an interview with B&B creator Mike Judge in which they asked him if we’d ever get to see an actual re-visitation of his most famous creation. His answer?
“I don’t ever want to close the door on that, but it seems like a couple of times when I’ve done interviews and say I’ve thought about, I go on the internet and see a headline that says I’m starting on the sequel. If I did do another movie, I wouldn’t think of it as a sequel, it’s just another. I don’t think of the Cheech and Chong movies as sequels. If they didn’t take so long– it would take at least two years, and I haven’t had two years to spare in a while. It is fun to do again. I worry that as I get older my voice is going to change, so I don’t sound the same. But it was fun doing this one.
“Occasionally I’ll get an idea. A while back, I was thinking, God it would be so fun to just have them working tech support. They’re the guys you get when you call. I started writing stuff down. The guy who I co-wrote the first draft of Idiocracy with, Etan Cohen, the whole time we were working on that script, we kept getting distracted thinking of Beavis and Butthead stuff. He was buying a new car, going through that process, and they started writing something about them wandering on a lot and trying to buy a Mercedes.”
Holy shit, the idea of Beavis & Butt-Head doing tech support is BRILLIANT. ‘Cause I’m fairly certain that a decent number of the dudes who do tech support are, in fact, about as bright as those two knuckleheads. But he’s right about his voice changing – Vince and I were just saying last night that Beavis doesn’t sound the way he used to. Sad.
My guess? If Judge’s new movie, Extract (which opens today) tanks, we could see Judge return to these beloved characters sooner rather than later. ‘Cause Mike Judge has kids to feed, y’know?

But yeah, personally I think it’s one of those “good idea at the time” moments. If he did redo Beavis & Butthead, it would suck, and everyone here would bash the living hell out of it. That’s just what happens when classics like Ninja Turtles, Ren & Stimpy, and Doug get redone.
I think Mike Judge should just keep riding the King of the Hill gravy train and keep making funny-as-fuck movies. It seems to be a schtick he’s good with.

When I was doing tech support for my current employer, we had a dude who would imitate Butthead all the time, sometimes while on the phone with a customer.
Bonus: he was completely blind, and did tech support for TV. Most of the time, people didn’t have any idea that he was blind. He was that good. And once in a while, he would get a person being a douchebag and put them in their place. For example:
Dude: “OK, what does that channel look like right now?”
Customer: “What, can’t you see it for yourself?”
Dude: “No ma’am, I’m blind.”
Customer: “…”
I’d be all for new Beavis & Butt-head as long as it’s updated for the times. Since it isn’t the 90’s anymore, there’s plenty of newer pop culture for them to give their commentary.
DARIA was far beyond better than B&B… that’s the one should return…
Daria was good, but Beavis & Butt-Head were on a whole other level.
