This is Blackie Lawless talking about Barack Obama in Classic Rock magazine (via Blabbermouth):

“He’s one of these old-time 60s radicals from way back. He thinks he’s going to change the world and he’s hell-bent on doing that. When he stood there the night of the nomination and he said that he intended on ‘fundamentally changing’ America – a chill ran down my back. Thousands of people were just standing there, wildly applauding, and it reminded me of Hitler standing on the steps of the Reichstag.”

Here’s what went through my mind imediately after I read this:

  1. Blackie Lawless is still alive?
  2. Did Blackie Lawless just compare a black dude to Adolf Hitler?
  3. Seriously, didn’t Blackie Lawless die a few years ago?
  4. Did Hitler propose health care reform shortly before committing mass genocide, or were his death panels unrelated?

In all seriousness: I don’t care if you don’t like Obama. I’m feeling pretty let down by the guy these days myself. But try not to sound like a total fucktard when expressing that opinion, okay?

            BTW- I don’t think the Hitler thing is too off base. He was wildly popular and spoke of reinvigorating the German economic state and creating jobs in a dismal economy. He used to same message of hope to the German people…then he, you know, started killing people.

Remember, Hitler didn’t run on the “I’m going to invade all of Europe and murder millions.” He ran on “We need to make Germany a great country for Germans again.” He was a “socialist” he brought many many government run social programs to the forefront in Germany (the volkswagen, the autobahn, healthcare, etc). He went from the leader of a small group in the living room of a house to the beloved face of the “new Germany” with millions and millions of followers in virtually no time at all.         That’s epic. And I think Blackie does have a point about the comparrison between both men’s rise in status and power. I’m not sure whether Obama’s going to start killing whites everywhere all of a sudden, but somehow I doubt it.

        Furthermore. Glenn Beck /does/ make some good points every now and then, as do Jon Stewart and Lou Dobbs. Now, of course, they are all working for their own party and beliefs, so as reporters, they’re always going to twist their beliefs to sound like facts. You have to sift through all their shit, find the core of their message, and compare it to all the others you hear. Then decide for yourself what you think is not only right, but what should be done, and HOW it should be done. THEN America will make progress.

        And that’s what Obama’s trying to do. But like a previous comment said– he’s only been there eight months. He’s still learning how to do his job. He’ll get to “fixing” things as soon as he can. What happens happens. As the people, it’s our job to learn to DEAL with it and FIGHT it until it satisfies us all. But it never will. So we have to settle for the best compromise. That’s called, “democracy,” children.

        But still. If we could stop having partiesm and instead have individual beliefs, I think things would be done not under a banner to be used by the corporations, but by an actual representative of the people.

    Technically… he did proposed health care reform. It was called Aktion T4, and it basically was a euthanization program, where the elderly, sickly, deformed, handicapped, etc. were to be put to death. He called it “health efficiency”. Some leader.

    Anyway, i could understand his opinion on the eerie feeling. Obama is a somewhat decent orator, and Hitler, well, of all the awful things he is, a bad public speaker is not. Before Hitler revealed his ‘solution’ he promised the German people alot of things it wanted to hear, “change” and “strength” and “fixing the economy”. All things he promised.

    But, I don’t see Obama rounding up all the whiteys, nor do I see a scared little Anglo Saxon girl hiding in an attic in Alabama.

    Regardless of whether you like Obama (or Hitler) or not, there are a lot of connections between how Obama ran his campaign, complete with imagery, and how Hitler took over Germany. I wouldn’t expect the people who run this site (or most of those who read it) to actually read history books, but I’ve got quite a few (and just finished reading “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” for the second time), and while the political ideology (might) be completely different, how they got to power is similar enough to be unnerving.

    Unfortunately for Comrade Messiah, Hitler had a longer run with the reins, and didn’t start out with a completely corrupt group of advisers. Fortunately for the US, it won’t take a massive world war to oust our leader – he’s well on his way to ensuring he won’t need to run for re-election in 2012, and making sure the Democrats lose control of the House and Senate in 2010 (which, no matter how you look at it, is a good thing – ANY group of people, regardless of political affiliation, who try to force things through that many people don’t want by simple fact of overwhelming majority vote needs to be ousted).

    Now, maybe the Republicans will stay home in 2010 and 2012 also, and we can get some libertarians into government.

I especially hate it when people get worked up over some politician’s views or ideas even though the issue at hand will never affect them on a personal level. I think a lot of people in this country count on the government to do everything for them, which is foolish. The government can’t create some magic fairytale world in which everyone’s problems are dealt with through legislation. The government can only take our tax money and spend it how they please.

      How about this policy? If you don’t like it, don’t fuck with it at all. If you don’t like someone’s views, then don’t listen to them. If you don’t like the idea of homosexuals getting married, then don’t marry someone of the same sex. Don’t like smoking? Don’t fuckin smoke! Pro-life? Don’t get an abortion! We have the right and privilege in this country to choose from a number of different surroundings and lifestyles, regardless of who’s president. We control most aspects of our daily lives, not the government. If you’re a really closed-minded person who can’t deal with the choices and differing opinions of others, then spend all of your time with people who think just like you. No government in this country will ever stop you from doing that. So next time you disagree with someone’s political views, keep your fucking mouth shut and control your own life instead of trying to fuck with someone else’s.

          Our government is here to look out for the best interests of the American public and in my opinion, they damn sure are not doing it. One man can’t change anything, we all have to work together on this one. We all have to put aside our petty differences and get this thing done. We all have to accept that maybe we’ll have to make some sacrifices for the better of everyone. Until people are willing to do these things, nothing will ever change. We’ll keep on driving our luxury SUV’s that we bought with taxpayer money and living in our McMansions that the taxpayers refinanced for us so we wouldn’t get thrown out in the street. As much of a responsibility our governemnt has to look out for us, we have the same responsibility to take care of ourselves, which we haven’t been doing, either. Stand up on your own two fucking feet and be a man/woman, stop putting your hands out for a free ride.

        This is what has people worried – the farther we get from 1776, the more and more government interference we see in a lot of aspects of life, and the fewer and fewer true freedoms we have left. Partisan politics is completely inane (I think organised parties are just as stupid – vote for someone based on their beliefs and what they’ve done, not the goddamn (R) or (D) after their name), but unfortunately we’re stuck with it for at least a little while longer, and even then, it’ll only be a temporary reprieve. People are getting angry because the government keeps getting bigger and bigger, and its interaction with people on a daily-basis level of their lives is increasing even more quickly.

        Academically, “Live and let live” works great. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work in reality. I don’t have any kids, so I don’t think I should have to pay a portion of my taxes to fund public schools….however, there’s nowhere I can go in the US that will allow me to do that. I think I have the Constitutionally-guaranteed right to carry whatever firearm I can afford anywhere I want, but there’s also nowhere in the US that I can do that. The problem is, regardless of who is in office, the entire point of politics has come to be putting in place policies to piss off and trip up your political enemies – NOT creating policies that adhere to the original Constitutional idea of America. Until we get politicians who are actually more worried about truly serving those who elected them, and less interested in using false rhetoric to gain a position of power to bring about changes that positively affect their small group of friends (and screw everyone else), we’re always going to have political debate.

        The reason the US government has gotten how it is today is because people have become more and more dependent on it to make their lives safe, profitable, and happy, which gives the government the excuse to make up all sorts of laws to ostensibly make the “people” happy, but really just benefit those in power, and their friends. Bad thing is, no one ever seems to learn their lessons, so it gets repeated ad nauseum.

If you don’t believe me look at the Democrats platform decades ago as well as the Republican platform decades ago. They are entirely opposite. The Dems used to be Repubs and vice versa.         It’s easy to make tenuous connections, but everyone seems to be missing one key element of the comparison/contrast. Our hard times are of a completely different nature than Germany’s when Hitler came to power. Our economy is shitty, and we do need to be uplifted, and yes it’s easy to find solace in what a good speaker says. Especially when that man is our new President. But all of the world’s powerful countries didn’t write an actual treaty stating that the US is responsible for a world war and denying us a whole bunch of rights. Germany was literally a global scapegoat after WWI, leaving their people extremely vulnerable to nationalistic thought, which as we all know eventually leads to discrimination and (if the man “rallying the troops” is Hitler) ethnic cleansing. Drastically different situation than ours right now. Plus, Hitler’s nationalistic and racist ideals were outlined well before he came to power. Mein Kampf is full of that shit. As far as I know, Obama never sat in a jail cell writing about how America is better than every other country and how Jews don’t belong here.
