STEEL PANTHER GUITARIST SOLOS AND PLAYS DRUMS… AT THE SAME TIME!

Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at 11:30am by Axl Rosenberg

Actually, it’s not quite as cool as it initially sounds; I mean, when you think about it, he’s basically just tapping his foot while he riffs.

Still, I couldn’t do it, and I haven’t really seen any other guitarists do it, so props where they’re due.

This is an eight minute long video of Steel Panther’s Russ Parrish – a.k.a. “Satchel” – soloing, but skip to the 4:25 mark to see the cool part.

Thanks to Kenneth Horan for the tip.

Nice little piece of “Trilogy Suite, Op. 5″ in there. I’d like to see these weirdos live.

  2. captain says:

What a douche, I want to punch him in the face sooo much

  3. Tuhdeh says:

@ captain: i’ll join you with pleasure

    • narcopolypse says:

so what do you two grouches do for fun? trace Korn album covers? search High On Fire liner notes for your brother-in-law’s name? tip police to the pot dealer next door?

  4. Sammy says:

Captain and Tuhdeh, maybe we could combine your names into Captain Duh! The band is a more-or-less parody/tribute band to cheesy ’80s hair metal bands. It’s SUPPOSED to be over the top and silly.

  5. nairbs says:

im sold.. these dudes are pretty awesome.

  6. ferocious_fetus says:

Metal Shop/Metal Skool/now Steel Panther, these guys have always ruled live no what they have called themselves.

  7. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

I love Steel Panther, but Satchel is an awful guitarist. And guitarists have been doing this since the invention of the instrument, check out the stomp box. It’s the same thing.

  8. Joe says:

this is fucking sweet because i saw them a week ago in west chester and i was so fucked up i remember the solo but not him playing drums. It was a killer show so if you get a chance to see them deffinetly do it

  9. Sweet solo, very nice shredding, the classic type of rock guitar show off :))

But there’s nothing special in his bass drum tapping, Axl. It’s a thing that any classically educated guitar player (as well as other instrumentalist) usually does to keep a steady tempo when playing without a rhythm section. Well, at least if he doasn’t have a metronome in his fucking head or something :)

glam is back, boys. get your make-up out of the box, and get your cocaine from that shitty dealer at the corner of the street…

  11. Dan says:

I’m no fan of glam or anything, i’ve spent all day listening to Scar Symmetry and Dark Funeral, but i couldn’t help but find this entertaining, i went into it expecting to dislike it, but nope, it was pretty fun.

  12. “There was a time when people scoffed at Hair Metal. But now with bands like Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and Daughtry being the popular rock bands of the day…I think everyone wishes for a return to that craziness that was the 80s. Everyone thinks Adam Lambert is ground-breaking for his androgynous style. Seriously? Have you seen a Poison video? Kings of Leon are “cutting edge” because they have a song called “Sex On Fire.” What about Warrant’s “Cherry Pie,” Faster Pussycat’s “Bathroom Wall,” Winger’s “Seventeen?” I mean seriously…they may not have been the best bands to ever rock our worlds…but they at least knew how to rock.”

“I THINK EVERYONE WISHES FOR A RETURN TO THAT CRAZINESS THAT WAS THE 80s” ???

I read that slice of wisdom at http://goodbadunknown.blogspot.com/2009/10/11-best-hair-metal-albums-youve.html

  13. Kaizre says:

easy, i tap my foot all the time while playing. lol, funny though. My other guitarist can’t do it.

  14. SeanN says:

A return to the androgynous dress code is definitely something we don’t need.
