SLAYER PLAY WITH DOLLS

I’d love it if some kind of behind-the-scenes DVD came with Slayer’s forthcoming World Painted Blood, but I guess I’ll have to settle for this.

The legendary thrashers’ attempt to get people to buy physical copies of their album – in case the four album covers wasn’t enough – is going to be a twenty minute DVD entitled Playing with Dolls, “a 12-episode video-graphic novel” from Metalocalypse director Mark Brooks. Inspired by the Jeff Hanneman-penned track of the same name, a press release tells us that “the film blends elements of animation and still-photography into a visual style similar to that of a graphic novel.”

Based on that description and the below trailer, that makes me think this is going to be akin to that lame Watchmen “motion comic” that came out earlier this year, which is to say, I have very little interest in watching this, huge Slayer fan though I may be. Luckily all signs point to the actual record being awesome, so I don’t feel too concerned about some bonus DVD.

World Painted Blood comes out November 3.

  1. I don’t think this is going to attract that many more people to buy the album.

You’re right, this would have been waaay better if it was a behind the scenes video.

CD’s are dead, or at least in a deeeeeep coma….vinyls, surprisingly may still have a chance though due to how hip it is now to have one. So I guess my conclusion is, Bonus DVD’s may not be the best bait for your target audience.

Anyway, a Slayer album is always welcomed.

Reviews for this album have it looking like a great way to end the year. The vinyl version comes with the album on cd, so I’ll pass on purchasing it more than once, especially for a lame ass dvd.

That song was absolute fucking GARBAGE. to you people have shit in your ears or what ??? Slayer has not been relevent since Seasons in the Abyss…..2 fucking DECADES ago. I LOVE old Slayer, and saw them in their prime….but there is no reason on satans green earth that ANYONE should be hyped about a new Slayer album in 2009.

I thought this was cool and dare I say “arty”! Behind-the-scenes is so played out, its super-rare anything happens that you didnt already see coming from a mile away. For a band that’s almost 30 years old, I think its great they’re trying different stuff for bonus content. That said, I think We Love Metal is right- its not going to introduce the band to entirely new audience.

i just cant listen to Arayas vocals anymore hes just shouting out words as fast as he can with almost no rythym or talent to it. he almost, ALMOST, sounds like james hetfeild, without the cowboy-ness
