Check Deadly Outlaw Rekka, an insane movie by Miike Takashi. That’s where I first heard the Flower Travellin’ Band. Fan-fucking-tastic music.
Everytime I go to Tokyo I drive the clerks at Tower records in Shibuya nuts. I insist on picking up as much j-rock and j-metal as possible. 99% of it is overproduced crap, but there’s always the odd gem. One I picked up a few years ago was I think a one off by the band “Rosso” a supergroup of sorts of j-rock, who were 1/2 of Three Michelle Gun Elephant..but it rocked quite hard. Not metal, but metallic. Very classic rock, with the emphasis on “rock”..very close to what The Crooked Vultures are trying to pull off, but Rosso actually succeed. The production on the disc, especially drums/vocals is amazing. Judge for yourself:
