ARSIS - Starve For The Devil Artwork

Arsis have given us our first taste of their new album, Starve for the Devil, in the form of “Beyond Forlorn,” which is streaming here. And it. Is. AWESOME.

It’s an epic, melodic, death metal song that makes me wanna fuck and kill and then fuck what I’ve just killed, which I mean as a compliment. But it doesn’t sound quite like anything Arsis have ever done before. I actually kinda wonder if some fans are gonna bitch that it’s too straight-forward… but I guess some fans are gonna bitch pretty much no matter what.

Check it out and let us know what you think. Starve for the Devil comes out February 9 on Nuclear Blast. And don’t forget that Arsis are part of the MetalSucks sponsored Tyrants of Evil North American Tour 2010, alongside Exodus, Mutiny Within, and headliners Arch Enemy. Get dates after the jump.

I hope the rest of the album is better than that tune…

    • Tj

Absolutely agree, the song seriously lacks the atmosphere and aggressive riffing that older Arsis is known for.

  • Joost

I love Arsis, can’t wait for it to come out!

Pretty fuckin’ sweet. Sounds like the new album will be quite good!

  • NeoMoose

Sounds great. Love that some of the melodic stuff from their first 2 releases has come back and some of the technical stuff that they did with the last album seems to have gotten the toss.

  • bretton

I was hoping the Bass drum sound from Celebration would be back… alas it’s not… rad song though, but yes, very different from other Arsis, I like it

  • g

not bad, although it kinda sounds like van dyne gave up on suffo-blasting

  • Slayerfan731

Sounds like a cross between Skeletonwitch and Arch Enemy. Nonetheless, it was decent.

    • Sin and Death

Shit, you beat me to it… I was gonna say it sounds like Shadows Fall and Arch Enemy had a bastard Satan spawn.

      • Skanes

        My thoughts exactly.

  • Mike Arose

That was a very Kickass song wish so much I could go to this show somewhere. Wish there was a Florida Date

Fuck yes, liking it better than We Are The Nightmare already.

  • rkuder

I miss Darren Cesca and Ryan Knight…

    …a LOT.

    • Nate L.

ME TOO. But this ain’t too bad, regardless…

  • Kye

Still not their first album…but holy titballs do I love these guys

  • Nate L.

Gosh this is such great news– i really needed this today, actually.

But the song is great. Good choice of a lead-off single– hopefully the rest of the album is a little less-mainstream-accessible than this. I don’t need accessible, mainstream metal from Arsis.

Don’t forget that track listing and bonus edition details are on their myspace!

    Rippin’ solo, btw.

  • Nate L.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask– who does the death growls now that drummer Darren Cesca isn’t there anymore??

    • The Overmatt

Jim does them himself if I’m not mistaken.

  • Ziltoid

Well, as expected, this is trash. Still, this is more mainstream-sounding trash than I even expected. Way to hop on the generic melodic death sound, Arsis.

They should have quit after A Diamond for Disease, because everything since has been garbage.

    • Kill All

i’d love to hear your band, Ziltoid….wait, do you even play music, or just judge other bands?
You’re a twat and this song is beyond awesome.

      • Ziltoid

By your logic, because everyone isn’t a cook, not everyone can judge whether food is bad or not. Fauly logic if you ask me.

But calling me a twat definitely adds more to your argument. Definitely.

Too bad this song is garbage. I just listened to A Diamond for Disease just to rid my memory of this shitty song.

        • Ziltoid

          *Faulty logic

          • Nate L.

It’s called a lead-off single for a reason— to rope in tons of fans before you expose the real deep cuts that make the core of the album.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, etc.

          • Ziltoid

That sounds like a euphemism for “hey, let’s put out the accessible song first.” Regardless, first singles are usually a clear hint at what the rest of the album will sound like, and in this case, that means crap.

  • The Overmatt

Great shit. Definitely sounds different from other Arsis, but they do it well. I’m kinda glad they’re trying new things, We Are The Nightmare felt kinda stale to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Keith-Brown/537636633 Keith Brown

I just jizzed. Love it, love it, love it

  • therealmetalmatt

It’s definitely different from the rest of their catalog, but that’s what I like about it. It honestly would be boring if they stuck to the same formula every album, which they haven’t done yet.

Great song Arsis, keep up the amazing work

  • http://www.ftsmetal.com James

Have you idiots ever thought that Arsis isn’t writing music to be mainstream but rather are just getting BETTER at writing music? Better at constructing songs, better at formulating song direction?

If they just shredded for 4 minutes in every song these same people would bitch that they’re just “wanking”.

Some of you dumb fucks, there’s no help for. Everything from Arsis has been great, We Are The Nightmare was a great CD and i’m sure this will be a great album as well. Their song writing and quality has improved a lot and hopefully this album gets the attention it deserves because of it.

    • Ziltoid

      Except they’re writing worse songs.

Go listen to A Diamond for Disease, then this crap. Then listen to A Celebration of Guilt. Then listen to this crap again.

It’s obvious where the better songwriting is…

      • Tj

I do think it’s important for a band to evolve but they are heading in a direction I can’t agree with. I can’t help but they have moved away from what drew them to me at first and now I have no attachment to the music. I was excited about new Arsis. The edge is gone. They haven’t changed in a way to make them more unique, at first they had a solid unique sound and then a hundred copy cat bands followed and instead of changing up in a way to make it so all the copycats were blown out of the water, they just moved towards sounding even more like all of them.

I’m kind of a negative guy, but people don’t benefit from praise. They learn from failure faster, so lets hope that happens here.

      • Ty

I couldn’t agree more with Ziltoid and TJ. But Ziltoid, you don’t think “We Are the Nightmare” was a good album? I thought it was pretty kickass.

  • Ty

Man, just because Arsis is touring with Arch Enemy this winter, doesn’t mean that they have to make their new album sound exactly like fucking Arch Enemy. It’s like simple thrash metal with a death metal twist. What happened to chilling, brutal, and technical songs like Failure’s Conquest?

  • DaylightReckoning

This is definitely different. I still like it, I hear melo-death with a Megadeth influence. Not sure if I like it as much as their old material. A Diamond For Disease is still the benchmark.

  • sandwiches

Honestly we are the nightmare was my favorite arsis record. I thought the technicality of the riffs and drumwork were an awesome step forward for this band. But if this is more straightforward I don’t know.. I guess I’ll have to check it out.

  • http://www.ftsmetal.com James

Keep in mind, Metalsucks likes fucking God Forbid. Seriously. God Forbid.

I have all of those Arsis albums and their song writing wasn’t necessarily better, sure it was more technical and yeah, the production wasn’t as good so many of you idiots are going to be all over their nuts over it. I loved their older work, was glad to see everything step up and be more polished with “We Are Nightmare”(Which btw was more fucking mainstream than anything they’ve ever done).

Two things happen to just about every band thats out:
1- They write the same material over and over again, then you cry and whine about all they have is recycled riffs and don’t do anything new.

2- They become more mainstream then you cry and whine about how they’re generic, just like every other band now blah blah blah.

I like the direction this is going in, Arsis are metal gods and if Beyond Forlorn is a sign of their new album I am fucking EXCITED. There’s nothing wrong with this direction and i’m not hearing any dumbing down or loss in technicality. I am hearing excellent song writing that is more direct but not any less melodic death metal. I’m sure there will be plenty of songs on their album that will be a shred fest but if this is the WORST track, it will be a strong candidate for album of 2010.
