WHITE WIZZARD CHIME IN WITH AN EARLY CANDIDATE FOR “MOST METAL VIDEO OF 2010″

Monday, February 1st, 2010 at 9:56am by

It’s only the first day of February but it’s going to be damn hard to top the levels of bad-assery reached by White Wizzard‘s new video. “Over the Top” — from their forthcoming Earache debut of the same name — reminds me of the days of yore, when music videos, ya know, ruled; the storyline and acting in this ’80s throwback classic are as over the top as the song’s name would imply. Marooned in a dusty desert town under the spell of an evil mage, just when you think our heavy metal heroes are done for good the power of metal and the White Wizzard himself come to save the day and restore all that is right in the world. Classic!

I may sound like an old man, but when it comes to bad ass music videos they just don’t make ‘em like this anymore. Except if you’re White Wizzard (and directory Dave Vorhes).

Over the Top drops March 9th in the U.S. and February 8th in Europe.

Nice. I just bought the “High Speed GTO” EP a few weeks ago and I dig it. Great band.

    • stu1

Too bad only the bass player on that EP is in the band

      • Sacajawea

        Haha, really?

        • Sacajawea

Yea, it looks like your right. I like both incarnations of the band I guess.

          • Bob

A bunch of the dudes went on to make Holy Grail. More speed metal than traditional but both are rad.

Yes they are a pretty good band.

  • Shitnuckle

I dugg it.The singer has a great voice

  • Doug

Over the top, indeed! Nice video, even if the music is (NWO)NWOBHM.

Made me forget the Grammy BS. It’s so nice the top-selling “artists” get recognized.

Ahhh! Smooth jazz! It’s like kryptonite!

  • Rock Johnson

These guys rock!!! I love it. The video has to be one of the best I have seen in years. Very Creative.

  • Brian

dude, terrible. if i was 18 and this was the first time I saw something like this, I would probably ironically love it…but cmon, just hit youtube and type DIO and you will find an endless list of related videos links that top this (and are era appropriate)

The video was a lot of fun, and the music was good, but totally throwback. I am not sure if I want to listen to a band in the ’10s that sounds like all the bands I listened to in the 80′s.

Cool, we have gotten to a year that I can shorten and it doesn’t look stupid anymore! Yay for progress!

    • Sacajawea

So you didn’t mean 1910 then?

      • Alex_P

Doesn’t he mean 1880? Because seriously, the Gay ’90′s kicked ass.

        • Sacajawea

          All 90′s are gay.

          • Sacajawea

I’m very confused actually by what you said. Which ’90s are you saying is the gay ’90s?

  • dave

6 minute music video = EPIC

  • pigchop

bah. I was hoping for something more in the vein of Wasp – Blind In Texas.

  • Lard

The guitarist on the right looks like Hetfield before he lost his balls

I was just about to point out his obvious resemblence to 87′ Hetfield , which I think is no coincidence.

I was thinking he bears a closer resemblance to Jeff Loomis.

  • MBraids

I saw these guys a couple weeks back in Tampa with Tyr and Korpiklaani, and I was impressed with them. Seeing this awesome piece of work convinces me that I’m gonna have to pick up their debut album when it hits in March.

Also, they’re signed to Earache. Anybody else intrigued by the fact that one of the original death metal labels seems to be picking up old-school thrash and NWOBHM-style acts lately?

  • Leo

    Fuck. Yes.

  • dapriate

    the suck.
