A METALSUCKS WORLD PREMIERE: VEIL OF MAYA’S “NAMASTE”

Friday, February 12th, 2010 at 2:54pm by MetalSucks

veil of maya

SORRY FOR THE DELAY! I won’t bore you with the details. But here it is, the one you’ve been waiting for: the world premiere of Veil of Maya‘s brand new track, “Namaste,” from their forthcoming album [id], out April 6 on Sumerian. This is an unmastered version of the song, and it STILL rules: brutal, technical, displaying top-notch musicianship but not at the sacrifice of great songwriting. This is Sumeriancore at its finest!

Enjoy!!!

  • Jake says:

    fuck yes

  • Spanky says:

    VoM!!!

  • Jake says:

why is the song called dexter? lol

  • Geetarz says:

    The shit doesn’t work!

  • addison says:

wut song name is dexter? namaste? WHAT IS GOING ON

  • Ryd1ZZ says:

Man, I’ve been waiting for this since I read the sumerian news letter a few days ago.

  • Sneakyness says:

Kind of a let down. This isn’t the Veil of Maya I fell in love with. There isn’t nearly enough chordage. It feels like half of the song is that one riff.

I’d be more excited for a remastered and reproduced version of their first album, original instrumentals.

    • Sneakyness says:

I just can’t help but feel like Sumerian has ruined this band trying to “develop” them. I don’t hear much Veil Of Maya in this. I hear a bad blend of all the stupid trendy bad sumeriancore shit.

Sumerian ruined the most recent Born of Osiris, and it looks like they might do a good job ruining Veil Of Maya too. It looks like After The Burial and The Faceless(barely) are the only ones that have any chance of doing something original and innovative. I See Stars too, but totally different genres. For another discussion.

      Whatever sells…

      :(

      • Zoker says:

It takes bravery to even name I See Stars here… congratz.

      • Jimmy says:

Yeah dude, I agree, this sounds so empty, hopefully it will sound better o the cd’s. I haven’t fully given up on them yet, I’m hoping to hear good stuff on the album.

        • Denham says:

Keep in mind this song is unmastered.. Just the mastering itself can reduce the empty sound. And ive never known a band to release the best song from the album straight up. So dont lose hope, the force is strong with this band. Haha. And i agree that its pretty repeditive. but still technical as fuck. Just i hope they dont get ruined like BoO, The New Reign was a masterpiece… Whilst A higher place was just missing something. Still good, but not the same. Thats my opinion anyways. I still love VoM.

          • jtquake says:

            Excellent points Sneaky and Denham.

I am hoping with fingers crossed that “id” does not fall into the “A Higher Place” trap.

Please, if there’s a metal god watching over us, don’t ruin this for us.

(translation: Michael Keene is a metal god– and I trust he will provide for us.)

      • john says:

its just different, it’s still sick and more orginal than alot of bands. sure its not a progressive as there old stuff musicians dont want to play the same old style all the time but this is just one song wait to here the whole album before you cry about it.

        • vannabanana says:

true, this is just one song, maybe the album will touch back to their roots, im excited for these guys. all they have now is just room to grow they arent really stuck in a genre. love the song

        • djskwith says:

john you nailed it. Its their first fucking song. If you like veil and don’t like this song then you can all fuck off. It still crushes!!!!

      • Zack :D says:

Dude, this isn’t ruined VoM. Just because one song sounds different from everything else they’ve written doesn’t mean they’re ruined. The difference between “All Things Set Aside” and “The Common Man’s Collapse” is obvious, but that doesn’t make them ruined. BOTH albums are AMAZING. I think that VoM is just moving forward. You’re ALWAYS going to hear change going from one album to another, so we can only hope that “Id” will be fucking brutal just like the rest of their stuff.

        P.S.

Have you heard their other song “Unbreakable”? I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by that one ;D

      • bighiyob says:

They didn’t ruin the new Born of Osiris at all. The new album is far superior to that of The New Reign, which in my opinion is the same song repeated for 9-10 songs. As for this song it’s pretty good as well. Thank god some of these bands are finally starting to grow out of the generic sounding stuff and putting their musical abilities to good use.

      • chesterdill says:

I think this song is awesome. Sumerian didn’t have anything to do with the bands writing and for the record Born of Osiris’s new cd is an amazing progression. I didn’t like it at first because it is very different but its all the same elements of BOO just at a much more developed level.

Don’t say this song sucks until you hear it played live because it sounds brutal. Everyone was going crazy. I don’t see how this song is much different from there old stuff either. its full of technical breakdowns with a sort of “We Bow In It’s Aura” type melody over it. It’s just one song from the cd. I don’t how you can just think since this one song is bad that the whole cd is going to be.

    • Alkahest says:

This sounds exactly like VoM. I don’t even.

  • Gaia says:

Devin Townsend has a song namaste. I think I prefer that one.

    • Lord Bling says:

Exactly, and Cynic has a song called “Veil of Maya’. Didn’t those two recently tour together? Oh yeah that’s right they did.

      • vannabanana says:

haha yeah they did, i wonder if there was a relation. cynic’s new album is so awesome

        • Downserver says:

No no, Veil of Maya’s name comes from the George William Russell poem of the same name. Coincidentally, the band Cynic also used the poem’s name as a song on their LP, “Focus.”

  • Kyle says:

    thank you, vom. thank you.

  • Ben says:

Cuts out at 1:00, boys. You make us wait for fucking EVER, and it doesn’t even work??!! GodDAMN, I’m dying here.

  • Matt says:

generic sumeriancore “off-time” breakdowns, but everythings either in 4/4 or an obvious time sig

  • adam says:

this is great. love it! is it downloadable

  • Tservo says:

A little disappointed that they didnt chose to premiere a song other than the one that has been youtube for months. As always with live and studio stuff they sound different but it would’ve been nice to hear an actual world premiere.

  • Rick says:

Tear drop… i wouldn’t care if i ever heard that song again… that sux… i still love veil of maya and i think marc is a very talented guitarist but… yikes… hope the rest of the album is better.

    • Sneakyness says:

I agree. This is a total disappointment. I’m listening to it over and over, in hopes that there’s some magical shit he’s doing that’s so amazing I can’t even hear it.

      No dice.

God that stupid guitar in the background sounds like shitty BOO or a bad synth.

Also way to lift the alternating discordant high strings from After The Burial. I think that might be the exact same notes as the one AtB does on their first album.

  • reggin says:

WTF, been waiting for so long and the prod sounds like shit.

  • Alex says:

if you people think this song sucks then you are all nerds that do not know anything.

  • Geetarz says:

I’m sure this just a song that got finished early because of the simplicity of it. I’m will to bet the album in its entirety will be killer. Just trying to stay optimistic.

  • Sean Hiatt says:

SO STOKED ON THIS SONG :D

but I have to say the mixing on 0:49-1:15 was kind of a let down

I get the latin kinda vibe from it… but i think something went wrong

    either way :D dope track
and as we have all seen it does sound better live!

  • Kevin says:

Kinda sounds like VoM is going for a “The Faceless” approach. Not bad tho i guess

  • Sneakyness says:

Re: Everybody commenting mixing and production values: there are NONE WHATSOEVER.

This is probably going to sound much, much better when finished.

Anybody familiar at all with studio recording and production at all is more than aware of how large of a difference all that makes.

  • Scott says:

Listen to this at 2:00 and then listen to Crawk back at 2:00.

  • Nate says:

*sigh*…. Poor VoM, they’re going back to the failure that was their demo. I want more songs like “It’s Not Safe To Swim Today.”

  • Brownsound says:

hmmmm.. the live version of them playing this at Emo’s sounds better, but this song is GREAT. The live version sounds like it “comes together” more, especially near the end. I’m actually pretty sure they left an entire part out of the recorded version that they played live.

OK, now I’m sure: They left out an entire riff at the end of the song, it starts at 3:13 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yMw_vSd8xA
If it were in the Metalsucks version, it should be played around 3:22 but it isn’t.

The worst part is that its like my favorite part of the whole god damn song!

  • andy morales says:

    awesome!!!

  • moogs says:

this is such a boring song. what a shame. hope the rest of the album doesnt sound like this.

  • good song in my opinion. But i will wait for the rest of the album to make a critic

  • Jake Schnar says:

It’s alright but I expected a bit more for freakin Veil of Maya

  • The M_F Beard says:

This is terrible. I knew a band whose acronym is VOM would sound as such. There is actually a section in there that sounds like Freak On A Leash by Korn… listen to the two songs after each other and tell me that it doesn’t. I’m going back to the Unsane post to watch something worth my time.

Jesus, it gets worst, I was writing this before the song finished. The writers on this site have some terrible taste in metal.

    • builtforsin says:

      +1

I could never get into this band. A lot of my buddies who I consider to have good taste are into them too.

      W/e.

      • Xenochrist says:

See them live and it will more than likely change your mind.

        • Matt says:

I’ve seen them live a good 3-4 times and it’s pretty hit and miss for how they do. I actually saw them not to long ago with BTBAM and Animals As Leaders, and it really made them look blah.

          Also,

If you’re reading this VoM…GET A GUITAR AMP WITH FUCKING BALLS! I don’t know if you’re still rep’n the randall shit, but every time I see you live your guitar tone “sounds like dildos”.

  • Jesse says:

Although it’s a little different from what I was expecting, I don’t think it’s bad at all. I’m still looking forward to the new album just as much as before.

And since VoM are probably going to read these comments; VoM, Comman Man’s Collapse is one of my all time favorite albums. A true metal masterpiece. I’ll be snatching up the new album the day it drops.

  • rob says:

I don’t know why everyone is flaming. This still has the VOM sound to it. Obviously its going to be different, every band progresses in song writing and it’s probably due to new musical influences. If every band wrote the same music and just slapped a new album title on it I would be pretty disappointed. Guaranteed this shit will grow on everyone who is against it right now. VoM is br00000tal as fuck.

  • Mike says:

if i remember right namaste was a yoshimitsu weapon in soul calibur 2

  • Brownsound says:

*uses telapathy to predict this weeks round-up post will be called “IN WHICH WE WERE BETTER LATE THAN NEVER”*

  • yea live it goes together better, but they took out a part too, its not finished so im just hoping this is the ‘how is this sounding so far ‘ song. but i have hope…..its a good song but not a VoM song i think. the lyrics are there amazing tho.

  • Kevin d sessions says:

its an alright song, thats prob why they released it first, theres definitely gonna be better songs on the album, and wats up with almost all the breakdowns on the fucking hi hat it ruined like at least 3 siiiiick parts!!?

  • Patrick says:

I like KoRn (I know, I know…) but I didnt even like the KoRn-ish parts. I was expecting more technicality. Seriously, I try and try to like a lot of bands like this. I think the overall style and sound is awesome but something usaully makes me hate most bands, vocals usually, or way too many boring breakdowns, or keyboards/synth.

The song is a grower though, by the time it was over I sort of dug it.
Again, I haven’t heard much from this band but I’ll def. check their new album out.

  • hotmess says:

    nice job boys. sounds great.

  • stereo-image says:

    a little dissapointed….
first of all I don’t understand why it was necessary to publish unmastered version of song..
Actually I expected the sound closer to previous album…yeah, the previous was brilliant, and every song of it was real interesting…
But i found that brand new track is borning…and it sounds like “yesterday”…it definitely does not sound like “today” and it certainly does not sound like “tommorow” … so…I am afflicted…
Hope that the other part of album will great

  • Peter says:

I agree that there is very little of veil of mayas original techniques in here. Hopefully, the edited album will fix that.

  • Tim Sheridan says:

THIS CD IS GOING TO BE FUCKING EPIC!

  • Mike Dix says:

Until I hear something mastered I was not impressed

  • Balsack says:

That was shit. what happened VOM….

They failed to maintain what allured me to this band in the first place which was innovation and vigor.
Instead this track sounds like their last cd recycled and half-assedly written.

i suppose i’ll wait to make my final decision about the cd after it’s released.
    ..but so far. WEAK.

  • Travis says:

This was disgusting… I love VoM and The Common Man’s Collapse but… this seriously let me down. I’ll still wait for the whole album though…

  • Andrew says:

Wow! This was really awesome. Marc just can’t let us down :D
VoM are epic. Were, are and always will.

  • dan says:

yea its gonna sound worlds different after mixing mastering so dont trip….to be honest i sortof like the sound of this…its like the 1st cd….this doesnt even have compression on the mix….CommonMAnsCollapse was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to compressed for my taste

  • eric murphy says:

I like it I just hope your drums and shit get a little better i hope

  • groverXIII says:

At least they do something relatively interesting with their breakdowns… I dig the weird-timed bits that show up midway through and then on the outro. Not terrible, I suppose, especially for deathcore.

  • evilfatguy says:

Not disappointed because I didn’t expect it, but because I was hoping for something a little more interesting. It sounds like it could’ve been on the Common Man’s Collapse.

  • joezuff says:

This song is about the show Lost. The chorus is “Live Together, Die Alone” a quote from the show.

  • Bicro says:

This band is on the same level of awfulness as BoO.

Saw them both live and decided never to purchase anything by either band ever.

  • Moooooa says:

Can’t condem an entire album based off just ONE song. It’s sick as fuckk though.

  • Papasquat says:

I’ve tried listening 2000 times to convince myself I like it. But no such luck. First between the buried and me lets me down, now VoM. What’s happening to metal.

  • chris says:

everyone should relax, they didnt completely change their sound like BOO

this will sound awesome when its mastered

    nice LOST references too

  • dan says:

This song sucks, im very disapointed. They’re trying to be technical in the most cliche way, all of the offbeat shit sounds like every other band on sumerian, they even changed their tone and made it sound exactly like BOO. I dont think the band is happy with the way they sound now at all.

  • PESTILENCE says:

Hmm………I was really looking forward to the new track for the past week…..

…….I understand it hasnt been properly mastered so why bother even releasing anything!?

Im gonna pretend I havent heard anything and wait for the new album cuz a band as incredible as VoM should really get it right and not release some half arsed recording after their previous masterpiece….
still looking forward to the new album I just dont see the point in releasing a crappy demoish version. All seems a bit amateur. Still think VoM are one of the best metal bands of the past 20 years though!

  • BerryBlend says:

gosh why does everybody complain? just because the song didnt satisfy your particular needs, doesnt mean its the end of the bands talent. I would take any “bad” record from BOO, ATB, and VOM compared to alot of the other stuff being released. And i cant believe anyone would say this band sucks live…they are incredible and it really shows their talent

    • why says:

I’m pretty sure they can do a lot better… in case you haven’t realized they did write the common mans collapse…which is just superior in every way. Secondly you need to understand that because a band is a band that they are, doesn’t mean they are always going to turn out good music, they are people. They simply just didn’t try hard enough.

    • Bobby Rhino says:

VoM and faceless for the win

  • that dude says:

Fucking boring! They need to dial down the vocals a bit, it drowns the drums and guitar out too much. God I hope the dont follow the path of BOO. I love veil of maya and i remain optomistic this album will be good….I’ll keep my fingers crossed…..

  • why says:

Well ill give them credit for the first riff is slightly decent… The song then slowly progresses into popular rehashed ideas that Sumerian loves to sell you, really poor song writing, really poor poly-rhythms, bottom line, not impressed.

  • Jason Warren says:

I beg to differ. I JUST saw this new song live at Emo’s in Austin when they opened for Between the Buried and Me(the best band ever?) and it was AMAZING live. the new VOM cd will be fucking ridiculous.

  • AATHD says:

    shit sammich

  • xxB? says:

you do have to remember that this version is unmastered.

and this same thing actually happened with the common man- it sounded
originally like it wasn’t going to be great, but it made a complete turn around
from when the first song was released.

    VoM is the shit. period.

and if you ever see them,
ask them about tripping acid on a golf course in TN (:

  • yuszarwin aidelizwan says:

all of the offbeat shit sounds like every other band . . \m/.. love this band . . u are my influence

  • Jackson says:

Hell yeah man this is fucking awesome as fuck!

  • kels says:

man, why do lil’ kid’s come here to listen to Veil of Maya’s new song then call it shit for sounding a like to Born Of Osiris’ sound? So what if they sound like them, Look at Emmure and The Acacia Strain. Lil fuck heads complaint about Emmure stealing A.S’ sound and it resolved in a fist fight. Lil fuck heads that wear tight jeans should shut the fuck up and stop listening to awful bands like Emmure, who only play music like with shitty ass break downs. Veil of Maya is professional when it comes to Emmure, So watch what you say you tight jean fucks. Also, Periphery is the best band in Sumerian records, so suck on that fuckers.

Ps: I won’t be looking back and forth looking at your gay lil’ comments on my comment I said about yall’.

  • ahh says:

haha to many bands are trying to be meshuggah. an influence is one thing but this is some after the burial shit( a complete attempt at a meshuggah rip off but lacking about 25 years musical experience )

it also makes me sad to see that the majority of veil of Mayas fans have absolutely no comprehension of polyrhythmic structure or complex music theory so cant really even understand why veil of maya is good.

also anyone who plans to listen to this album but is not familiar with the term psyconaut and have an in depth knowledge about it ( as in many personal experiences ) is undeserving of listening this album weather its good or bad

    listen to Tool..

    • kels says:

      Fuckin’ Tool man, classic!

    • MisSigsFan says:

I’m gonna have to disagree with you. I’ve been studying music for almost 13 years now and I think that VOM and ATB are amazing bands. ATB definitely took some stuff from Meshuggah, but they put a whole new twist on it.

    • Autopsy says:

      Pompus twat.
How about trying to write something innovative yourself before speiling out what is essentially a load of bollocks.
“too many bands are trying to be mechuggah?” – you could say that about anyone in any genre of music

ITS CALLED INFLUENCE and thats how music progresses and changes – dickhead

      • Fong Chung says:

I have to agree, but however listening to Tool makes my IQ drop. Tool is hardly anything that is innovative, or even remotley proggy. They are more like a bad King Crimson tribute band, that decides to cash cow off Robert Fripp’s legacy. Don’t you just love a band, that sings about well……NOTHING! Jesus christ Bill Hicks is rolling in his fucking grave right now. You see Veil of BOO fans are quite stupid. Tool fans are far worse. Take your pick….

  • getitup says:

People are expecting WAY too much out of an unmastered track. I mean come on, I’m sure they’re going to do something about the background guitar sound. And to me this sounds as good as their other jams. Maybe some people just need to stand up and pull that stick out a little.

  • xakgbagx says:

This sounds exactly like Veil Of Maya! This is their style, and it’s sick. So what if some parts of the song are a little different like the funky rhythm with bass and drums? I honestly think that is Sumerian Style right there! Progressive – Metal, and if you know the definition of “Progressive”, you understand! Also this is unmastered it’s going to sound a lot less empty when it’s complete, man some people don’t appreciate anything and only consider the flaws, and I see no flaws with this song!

  • Bobby Rhino says:

VoM and faceless for the win!

  • G R says:

Stop hating little children. You wont be dissapointed

  • ahh says:

@MisSigsFan well then i respect your opinion, but veil of maya put a twist on it after the burial is an obvious meshuggah rip off. dont get me wrong ATB are good musicians i just dont like the music they put out.

if you cant define the word poly rhythm you shouldn’t be listen to VOM or Meshuggah or ATB August burns red

not Born of Osiris cause their lousy to spite their attemp they cant write with complex rhythm structure

and if you dont know the concept of planetary duality on a very in depth level you shouldn’t listen to it
this is music for musicians only

    • musicians only? says:

That might be one of the dumbest comments I have read on a forum in a while. This music is for musicians only? So if you don’t play an intstrument, you are not allowed to enjoy it?

Who said you were allowed to tell people what they can or can’t listen to?
      What a stupid fucking comment.

    • terror storm says:

in what way is after the burial a rip off of meshuggah? is it because they use 8 strings? your freaking retarted there both different kinds of metal after the burial is soooo much more melodic. i love both of these bands. i understand how they relate to each other because of polyrythmic parts. but still

    • MisSigsFan says:

Your horrible grammar gives me the impression you have no idea what poly rhythm means either and are just spewing out words to make yourself seem intellectual. This music can be and is listened to by anyone. You don’t need to be able to play an instrument to be able to listen to music. Just like stupid kids are allowed to listen to rap, even though they are whiter than the Rockies.

  • HB_Dad says:

Decent song but not their best though I am still really excited for this album.

As for the BOO bashing, I loved The New Reign but I think the new album is easily their best. It has some of the best guitar work on any album in awhile!

  • Jake says:

I wonder how many people knew that there was an album before the common man’s collapse? Because basing off most of these comments, I feel like nobody knew that it existed. All Things Set Aside ftw. just saying.

  • terror storm says:

not gonna lie. im pretty pissed about this. i expected quite alot more than what im hearing, vocals sound terrible honestly

  • crowley says:

People should stop listening to all this computer metal junk, we have Meshuggah. Lets here some bands fucking jam and come up with unreal musical pieces like Tool or Isis. Sick of this bubblegum sumerian metal poop.

  • Chris Mezyk says:

Yeah, I don’t like this band already, and being from Chicago I feel like I run into people all the time who either “used to be in VoM”, or “party with those dudes”. But what the hell? That logo is waaaaaaaaaaaay too close to Saint Vitus’ “V” logo:

    http://theobelisk.net/obelisk/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/nolaposter.jpg

  • zeflows says:

    so fucking generic

  • Veil of Osiris says:

You all need to stop bitching about how this song is different then their old stuff, because you know what? If they put out an album that sounded exactly like the common man’s collapse or all things set aside it would be boring. Bands naturally progress as time goes on, and that’s exactly what we see happening here. At first I though it was too simple, and that they should have added more riffs and polyrhythms but having listened to it a few more times now, it’s really starting to grow on me. Also having heard the other new song “Unbreakable” I’m convinced that the rest of the album will be better. For all of you idiots complaining that VoM is too generic or sounds like meshuggah and all that other bs, show me one other band or meshuggah song that sounds ANYTHING like this. For fucks sake, I dare any one on this page who is complaining to attempt to write a song half as good as this.

  • Ryan says:

The track is mastered to an extent.. The drums have been EQd and quantized. As an artist you usually have tons to time to think over your first few albums (Most of the songs from Common mans collapse have been in production for a few years, being on their EP) When you hit the road all year and have a label your mind isnt as free and you are stretched for time so typically artists produce shittier music. You also want your music to be more listenable so you resort to simple 4/4 beats with the snare on 3 and 2 (Since when has VoM had a simple 8th/16th note double bass constant through 70% of their song :P)

  • Johnnyboi says:

    SHIT SOUNDS SO FUCKING EMPTY.!

  • Sébastien Roy says:

Wow this sounds AMAZING!! I love the new sound, but I love even more how they kept the same idea… The part at 0:50 sounds so beautiful. The crisp drum-line with the tecnical sound of the guitar along with the un-commercial rhythm makes me think of a large chaotic crowd stumbling and scambling along their business, and you’re standing in the midst of it all, oblivious to the reason behind the surrounding pandemonium. It’s so mysterious and abstract, especially with the guitar solo. For some reason I find that this part ties in really well in terms of style and effects with the We bow In Its Aura instrumentals part. Seriously this song is so powerful, even unmastered. Veil of Maya has done it again. I feel like there’s a extremly powerful climax to every one of their songs (“And if we can’t even trust ourselves, how can we trust anyone else,” aswell as the We Bow In Its Aura instrumentals section are some good ones), and this one is no exception. Thank you so much for the good music VOM! Keep up the amazing work! By the way I’m really digging the band’s new evolution. I was really hoping for something brand new whilst still having the same style and idea. :D

  • I’m a HUGE VoM fan, but this was severely disappointing. Not one hook, and Marc’s guitar tone is really weak compared to the last album. I know it needs to be mastered etc, but I can understand where he was going with certain sections and can’t get into it. The song sounds like they had a deadline and had to forced it out.

I really hope the rest of the record isn’t as “experimental” as this tune was.

I’m not even close to disappointed with this song.
I’m disappointed with you so called “fans”.
So stop bitching, this song as well as the others are being mastered as I speak.

  • jsimez says:

This song was unreal. It made me want to destroy someones face. They keep doing it, and doing it big every time. I can’t wait for the cd it’s going to be so fucking brutal.

  • this is a gerat song. im gonna pre order

  • Poopenshaft says:

    daddy like.

0:53 sounds very Mars Volta-ish to me.

  • Everyone that’s hating this is an idiot, this is the fucking intro track to the CD stop saying its “empty” and shit it isn’t supposed to be anything amazing. And really the BOO bashing is starting to get old on here. If you really think the New Reign was that much better than A Higher Place, then you must not no anything about musical ability because hating on a band for evolving and moving forward is retarded. And by the way, I have heard the entire Veil cd, and you are all going to kick yourselves in the dick for hating on this song because the cd is amazing. And just wait for Boo’s third CD, I have listened to everything that they’re thinkin of putting on it so far and its nothing like a higher place. if anything, u can put it this way—the new reign, but without songs that were written when we were in highschool, and 7 strings. sup.

    • Not for nothing man, but if people don’t like it… they don’t like it end of story lol. Doesn’t mean they’re moronic for not liking the song, mate. That’s what the comment box is for- to comment on what you think of the tune.

I have faith that the rest of the Veil album will be sick, but as far as this song goes, it is what it is! =)

  • nick says:

lol this fucking sucks, how is this brutal and technical at all? shit blows, just meshuggah style/gojira double bass use rip off, shit blows, listen to some real shit.

  • jbLovesVom says:

this song is very good, im glad they sticked to the same style and sound, in other words (no affence) they didnt pull a Born Of Osiris

  • jbLovesVom says:

i feel like “why” has no idea what he is talking about but ok. a band does what they want to do cause thats there music not your. so all the haters keep it to your selfs. they play what they want to play, and plus i would love for to you fuckers to play this, is more complicated than you think.. it progressive for cryin out loud. but anyways. BOO love they new cd cause they made it how they want to, but im just glad veil stayed similar to there other cd’s

    • People are always going to have an opinion. I was anxious to see what VoM fans were saying because it came as a bit of a shock. A majority of Veil fans really dig the new material which I think is fucking awesome- I want them to succeed.

I really wanted to like it, even listened to it 3 or 4 times and still can’t fell it. I can respect a band for doing what they do, doesn’t mean I have to necessarily like it.

And if you want complicated, technical and progressive guitar work, come and listen to some of my shit

  • kngdeuce says:

this song was so fucking amazing i don’t understand how anyone could say its not it still sounds like the last one but better quality VOM are one of the best bands out right now

  • angel ur right, i just get defensive now and then when i see a full page of comments that should be directed towards veil, but instead my friends in BOO still get dragged into the negativity. Opinions are opinions of course, but i dont know why its so hard for kids to just say ” im not into it” or something, and not “oh this is the stupidest fucking shit ever just like BOO”.

    • Word man, I’m in a few bands myself and I hear criticisms all the time, (i.e. Bobby Cauley’s comment on my material LOL). So I know exactly what it’s like. I’m still a huge VoM supporter and plan on getting their album regardless of this one tune. I’m sure there’s going to be some material I’m going to dig.

I’m also a big Born X Osiris fan, too. They’re a big deal in the world of technical metal these days, so it does without say that people are going to compare other sumerian bands with them. Furthermore, It’s hard to stay consistent with your sound without repeating what you’ve already did. I’ll give VoM credit for doing something a little different though.

  • iscmarkiemark says:

fuckin awesome in my opinion!! seems like old vom but with a lil bit different style which makes it perfect to my ears. I luv the 1:14 part the most. great job cant wait for the album. If anyone has the lyrics post them up

  • imdeathcore says:

nothing special in this song, more of the same but there is something that make it coolll more dijently maybe i just like it. can’t wait to listen the full version

  • VoMSpooky says:

Boy, this song isnt hardcore sure is spookcore. The beginning riff gives me the jeepers.

  • BT-BAAAMM says:

My god, do you hear that rhythm break at 1:23 on? Confusing as hell.
    VoM is going places.

  • Michael says:

the section at 2:10 is sickk. but the lask of shredage and artificial harmonics and crazy chords makes it seem less and less like VOM but im sure the rest of the album will be goood.

  • lybrium says:

Pretty funky song for VoM, I think I will enjoy this more than born of osiris’ last effort…

  • eric says:

I feel that faster tempo would make a world of difference for this song, also have the chords at the intro played at 16th notes would make it sound fuller

  • kyle says:

theres probably so many riffs that havent even been put out on this demo. this is most likely just a demo if you listen to some of there original demos they are kinda mundane but they rewrote them an made them better. this track is actually fuckin dope
